Hate to see that and agree no need to wish failure on anyone. Especially when committing to FSU means you won’t be competing for an ACC championship or a Natty it’s like the failure was already built into the decommitment

Oct 13, 2022, 11:06 AM [ in reply to Re: Is he scared of competition OR ]

C’mon people these are kids we are talking about. Remember when we were 18? The bad decisions we made. Those mistakes we made helped us become good men later in life. At 18 wee you capable of making life altering decisions? None of us were. In every single one of these situations it is not the young man, it is always an alleged grown up pulling the strings, a parent, uncle or close friend. Someone who is thinking of a short term financial gain, most likely that will pad his or her wallet, and not thinking of the young man’s future. Try to remember this young man is no different than our own child and be respectful. Better to have him make this choice now, then for it to happen much later or have him enroll and leave. Let’s be the adults in the room. This bashing of children really isn’t what Clemson gentlemen do.

Glad that he bailed now instead of later.

Good luck to Owens at FSU.

What FSU has always done is use Florida A$M women to provide favors for recruits. It’s been going on for decades especially under so-called Christian Bowden. FSU is every bit as bad as any SEC school which is amusing considering their recent w/l record and the state Jimbo Fisher left that program in.

Re: TNET: 4-star lineman decommits from Clemson

It's unfortunate to lose recruits especially on the O line where we have struggled to field a competitive deep unit. Nevertheless Austin has turned a corner and getting this corrected. I think it will continue. Maybe he's
Intimidated by that monster that just visited who appears physically ready right now to step in at LT.

I often wonder what may be happening in this kids life that we aren't aware of. Is his family struggling financially ? Maybe he's being pressured by his mom trying to make things work in a single parent household.

Most of our hard commits come from a good place with strong family relations.

In any event we will be fine and Austin will continue his recent success

TCI is reporting that his family is moving closer to Tallahassee and he wants them to be able to come watch him play. Sounds like he may come from a lower socio-economic family. Can't blame him for that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: 4-star lineman decommits from Clemson

Several sites are reporting that. He himself apologized to Clemson and the fans. Stated he loved Clemson and everything it stood for. Wish Tnet staff would do their homework instead of fueling the flames.

He does come from a lower income family and the family has to move. Where he goes will depend on where the family moves. I for one, wish him the very best.

Re: Why would anyone (especially adults) have any problem with

Oct 13, 2022, 12:30 PM

Recruits have plenty of time to decide on their commitment and Dabo never rushes anyone. It really comes down to morals for alot of people reading this article. Any Decommitment is negative publicity and that's exactly what Dabo tries to avoid by telling recruits to be 100% sure and to cancel all remaining visits after giving a verbal. It's a 2 way street on commitments, u won't see Dabo turn away someone who has committed bc he found a better player afterwards. We expect the same level of loyalty from recruits. Clemson nation will be just fine without this kid, wishing him a bright future is optional at this point. It makes me very proud knowing that high character is part of being a Clemson Tiger. Go Tigers!!!

Oct 13, 2022, 2:52 PM

We recruit these kids ... get a verbal commitment ... then we stop actively pursuing other guys at that position.

If, after Owens verbally committed, we had found a better prospect and decided not to honor Zechariah's pledge, TNetters would have been up in arms.

Now we’re left sort of holding the bag looking for a replacementnguy for a position we considered filled.

I'm reading these "just a kid" comments but everyone knows this is a business now and money is a huge factor. I don't wish him to be football cursed but that type of move is a character flaw in my eyes. Considering the fact he brought up money in his reasoning (gas) makes it pretty obvious what's on his mind. I drive from Orlando to Tiger town all the time, you don't need a plane. He would have surely been making enough money to pay for gas or a plane ticket if he wanted to play at Clemson. I don't buy his reasoning but I don't want any recruit that's not 100% All-In, enjoy free shoes u. Go Tigers!!!

From what I have found out it wasn't him decommitting as much as his parents decommitting him.

They really want to shop him around for the biggest NIL deal possible.

He indicated he wanted to stay with the friends he made from current players and recruits at Clemson but his parents will have none of it.

It’s really sad that it appears the “adults” in his life have pushed his change of mind. Obviously Dabo and his crew felt the kid had potential otherwise they would not have offered him. Anyway, no hate for the young man but agree it’s probably a mistake on his part.

At least he's honest enough to let Coach know what's going on. Do we have to like it? No, he's a kid, I hope that this is the best decision for he and his family. I just remember a few years ago, we got a recruit from the coots and they were posting garbage like: "I hope he has a career ending injury" or "hope he breaks his leg"

That ain't a good look. Hope we don't become like that.

It stinks to lose a recruit to a competitor, especially FSU, who appears to be cycling in (thanks Toad E.!), but we'll be fine.

Remain calm, all is well.

He's chasing NIL $. Don't blame the kid tho. If his family is struggling for $ why not go get it and help out his family. Wish him nothing but the best(except one Saturday a year that is).
