Depends on how much of the current roster and staff stays in tack.
Their schedule is third toughest in the SEC this upcoming season I believe, and they open up be UGA in conference play after playing @ Wisky. Will certainly be a tough first year for him.

All hires are gambles. Only a few turn out to be really good hires. Only a miniscule few turn out to be great hires.
But, if you want to feel good about them not making a great hire, Paul Finebaum seems anything but elated about the hire. He's trying to put on a good front, but you can see he's disappointed.

I don't think that Alabama could possibly hit a home run after St. Nick, but Deboer is an very solid hire. We will have to wait and see how he does in his new environs.
Half a dozen SEC programs are looking to feast on Bama's bones - and move up the ladder.

How? How is this guy not an elite coach? He went 28-2 in two years at a school he took over that was 4-8 the previous year. This man wins. All he does is win. He’s had 11+ seasons in all but three years coaching. 105-12 is #### impressive. This isn’t Harsin. Harsin never coached P5 before Auburn.

Obviously he is going to face tougher competition in the SEC, but he going to have far more resources to work with at Alabama. The guy is a rising star……it is a good hire.

Ryan Grubb is "secret" of his success, so hard to say yes

I live in Seattle and watched the Huskies a lot the last few seasons. The secret of their success is Ryan Grubb, their OC. He coached Penix, has been with Deboer forever. I think their relationship is similar to Tommy Bowden and Rich Rod back in their Tulane and early Clemson days. When Rich left for WVA, things went south quick for Tommy. I think same situation here. Of course, Deboer can afford to hire whoever he wants now that he has Bama resources.

Dude can coach for sure. You don’t accumulate a record like his by not knowing what you’re doing.
Does that translate into success at Bama where there’s more to it than just coaching ability? Can’t say but I would take him over Sark or Norvell.

contender, and I suppose the jury is still out on that one a season later, so we'll see.
Having said that, Streeter was no Saban. Anything less than perfect will be a Double or less. Nothing personal to boot, but I hope he struggles and Dabo works his magic on recruits we could have lost to them otherwise.

I don't know enough about him (as a coach) to say for sure, but recent history is full of "up and coming" coaches that didn't become the legends people thought. They didn't get to coach at Alabama, so maybe there is hope. However, I remember all of these being the next big thing:
Scott Frost Major Applewhite Clay Helton Jim McElwain Kevin Sumlin Sonny Dykes Chip Kelly Derek Dooley AND Butch Jones AND Jermy Pruitt (sorry Tennessee) Will Muschamp Charlie Strong Dan Mullen Willie Taggart Mike Riley Josh Heupel - Hope for Tennessee yet.. Kliff Kingsbury Pat Fitzgerald

I’d never really heard of him. West coast football ends too late for me. At first I thought he was the coach at nc state but I was mistaken. There is no way a coach can stand the level of scrutiny. Look at Dabo and the criticism he took for not going undefeated the last few years. And that is with a good supportive fanbase. Multiply that exponentially. Total lose situation. At least he’s getting paid well.

It’s this. Guy can coach but can be deal with the meat grinder that is Alabama. Those folks are unhinged. He 100 percent should take the shot and the money, but success is measured as Natty only there every year

Should have leveraged more money at UW and built his program there. UW has plenty of money and are going to the other power conference with an easier path to the cfp.

Only if he is allowed to bring his OC with him. The OC at Washington has been with DeBoer for a while. That would mean Alabama puts Tommy Rees out the door. That’s a big deal for Bama. Rees was high enough on the list to be considered for HC.

He may ride the wave Hatfield did for a few years, but I'm interested to see how he recruits in the South. I think Lanning would've been perfect for them....much like Kirby for uga

They guy has won every place he's been. Remains to be seen if he is a good fit at Bama. He's going to be aided by the fact that with the expanded playoff, he can get away with a loss (maybe two) and still have a shot at a title.

Depends on what you consider a home run. A coach that will win 5-6 SEC titles I. 10 years and 2-3 National Titles in 10 years then yes. If you mean the standard set by Saban then no but that would be no one. There won’t be another Sabanin the college football world again. That is why he left. He could see that.

You don't "replace" a generational coach. Clemson moves back to the epicenter of CFB. Alabama will just be "Clemson West" from here on out. But the guy probably is the best one they could've gotten, looking at his record of success.

I do not believe there is any coach that can sustain what Saban did there in the new college football. I do not think saban could do it either. Too much tampering with young players.
