Is Clemson IN A: "No Win Situation"?

Dec 29, 2020, 3:01 PM

If Clemson wins - people go, "yeah what did you expect Ohio State only played 6 games"!
If CU loses - people will go, "yeah and think about if they played more than 6 games they would have crushed them"!

Either way you put it - this will be either "ho-hum" to people outside of Clemson and Columbus or it's going to be a perceived feather in the cap of OSU after beating the mighty Tigers with only 6 games and "battling Covid-19"[as if CU hasn't].

What do you all think the narrative will be after this game? Will the story be about how many games OSU played win or lose?

No win situation?
They win they play for the NC, that’s a pretty big win .

We lose and it’s almost getting to the point of being very AVG in the CFP.
So the Tigers have way more to play for than what people think.

I should have made that more clear! My mistake.

But, yeah, besides the obvious going on to play for a National Title Opportunity are the Tigers in a "no win PERCEPTION situation"?
I.E. the perception of the average fan - who might not see a Clemson win as a big deal because Ohio State was at a disadvantage!
Versus the fan who gives them a ton of credit because they "had a disadvantage and won"!

But, I get what you are getting at.

I’m sure most of the nation hope we hang 50 on the nuts . But like you said if we lose it does look bad .
That will mean our last 2 CFP games we have lost .

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree. If Clemson wins the natty this year...

Dec 29, 2020, 3:12 PM

everyone will be like well, duh... they've got the best QB in college football history and they only had to play 13 games and they won it during an asterisk year due to covid.

and if we lose, everyone will be like duh... just like last year, ########## in the playoff

Don't care moving on to Championship***

I think the win is huge no matter what. Other than Alabama there is nobody bigger we could beat.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ha! Noooo. If we win it’s a big win and we move onto the Natty.***

The narrative will be whatever the tv jock analyst allows it to be! Whatever creates the most “ink” is what to expect.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes but we will still have won a playoff game, beaten two of the three playoff participants

Dec 29, 2020, 3:43 PM

and be on our way to yet another Championship game.

Soooo, they can have their narrative. That’s a win.

I don't get the same feeling

Dec 29, 2020, 3:30 PM

about how non-Clemson fans are looking at the game.

Most people think Alabama is going to slaughter ND while our game features two closely-matched teams, with us as favorites.

From my perusing around the internet, most don't believing playing 6 games helps or hurts OSU. It's a very small factor in their thinking.

However, if we blow out OSU, then excuses for their poor performance will start rolling in and #1 on the list will be playing only 6 games.

Clemson and Bama are both in the same situation this year. Both are expected to win rather easily.

Actually, Bama is even favored by more than Ohio State.

I don't see it. I think ND would beat OSU by 2 touchdowns.

I think the Clemson line is way too small.

I think the only narrative that matters will be that the Tigers are on another championship run. Talking heads are always going to find something to talk about no matter what.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If we win don’t we get a berth in the championship game?

Dec 29, 2020, 6:20 PM

If I am correct, then it is definitely not a “no win” situation. I see your point and don’t disagree, but I think that is true of most games. If you win, it is because the opponent sucks. If you lose, it is because you suck.

The talking heads are gonna say what they are gonna say - like usual. The B1G pumpers will be making excuses if we win. But we just need to win and advance. Screw what ppl say.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They can worry about narratives while we polishing trophies.

Dec 29, 2020, 7:18 PM
