Internet service and TV programming.

First of all, I am not tech savvy, thus I am asking for help. I live out in the sticks, no fiber-optic or cable tv options. I am currently using local telephone service for internet (11mbps) and DirecTV. The only other option for internet is via satellite (ex. Starlink). After a little research, I am thinking You Tube TV for programming.
I would like a higher mbps rating so that I can use more than one device at a time. As far as programming, I would like local channels and sports channels. I would appreciate any suggestions/recommendations.
Thanks in advance, WS Tiger
UPDATE: I signed up for the free YouTube TV trial. It’s only 5 days now. While I was watching tv, I thought I would test the internet. I decided to stream some music on my tablet and my wife started watching one of those cooking videos. To my pleasant surprise, none of the devices started buffering. We did this for about ten minutes with only 11mbps. I am really surprised.
Looks like I will be dropping DirecTV and switching to YouTubeTV. I will keep my current internet service unless I start having problems. Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Several years ago I switched from cable (Spectrum) to YoutubeTV. I my internet speed (still with Spectrum) is great. Anywhere I can plug in a tv, I get uninterrupted streaming - including outside at my fire pit. On football Saturdays, I get just about every game I want to see. The only issue you may have is with internet speed. If it's slow, you may have to endure buffering. Good news is you can try YoutubeTV free for a period of time.

From a streaming perspective, You Tube, etc. you will need more than 11mbps.
I don't have a lot of knowledge about starlink, other than what I hear. Most of those that can get it, are satisfied.
Streaming services, You tube, Hulu, etc. require a steady internet connection to get consistent HD service and picture quality without buffering. You don't have to have fiber, but you will need at least 200mbps to get consistent 720HD to 1080HD, that's just from my experience. We moved up to 400, and have no problems with streaming any games, and connecting devices simultaneously. Also, depending on where in the sticks you live, and what county, if it's in the Upstate, I'm seeing fiber getting run to rural places now that have been fighting for it for years.
Update: WS Tiger, I wasn't aware at the time of my first reply of the Directv problem with Espin, ACC DN, etc., I have a family member that just switched from Directv to Fubo and get's all the channels and games. I hear good things about YouTube tv as well. Glad you found something that works!

pretty iffy...could probably expect some buffering. I'm lucky to have great fiber, 700 mbs, from Carolina Connect, even though I'm in a very rural area. With Carolina Connect, the fiber goes all the way into your house. That is often not the case with Spectrum and other providers. They will have fiber on the street, but run coaxial from the street into your house, resulting in some speed loss.

You should be able to get at least 100 mbps with Starlink. YouTube TV and other streaming services work fine with it.

You probably will not like YouTube TV unless you can up your internet speed. When we lived in the sticks in VA we were stuck with Direct TV because the internet options sucked. Are you certain you have no fiber or cable lines near you? It’s probably very unlikely but from time to time they run right past your house and you’ve never been hooked up. If they do you’ll have to pay to have it run to your house.
Starlink wasn’t around at the time we were in your situation so I don’t know what their speeds are or how reliable it is.

Grab starlink Gen 3 setup for $299. Get the standard unlimited fixed internet for $120 a month and then youtube TV. (pretty sure you can get your locals there also)
Your starlink speeds should be 5-25X as fast as your 11meg internet you have now!
Enjow!

$200 bucks for Starlink + YTTV! That's pretty pricey!***

I have YouTube tv and am very satisfied with it. It beats the socks off Direct TV and AT & T. I still had AT & T internet until they leaked my information to the dark web then went up on the price if I did not give them my bank information instead of credit card. I may not be the brightest bulb in the pack, but I certainly was not giving my bank information to them after all the headaches they have caused me with their data leak. I switched to Spectrum for internet and kept YouTube TV. Very satisfied with both. Unfortunately, I cannot get fiber either, but if Spectrum is available, I would jump all over it. I had 50 mbps with AT & T, but now I have 300 for less than AT &T. I got occasional buffering at 50, but none with Spectrum. YouTube TV has no contracts, so you can always switch. Good luck! Go Tigers!

We switched to Youtube TV a couple years ago from DTV and it is so much beyter. I just began the T-Mobile 5G internet at my remote cabin an d it is working well and cut my cost over 100 a month. Very pleased so far. Dumping cable and Direct Tv was the best move we ever made.

I have DTV with 11 speed also, it has been very satisfactory until recently. I like DTV because I can pause to take a leak, back up to see something again, program recordings way ahead, fast forward visibly, etc. Now that DTV is screwing me with limited channels and raising their rates, I looking to change. Thinking YouTube: will I lose the plusses I have with dtv? Can I program ahead, pause, etc as mentioned above. What kind of remote is required? Thanks, I'm very ignorant on streaming. TOL

With YouTube TV you can record the games you want to. You can pause live tv as well and pick up where you left off. The down side I have seen recently is they have started showing their own commercials when you start a program that you can't skip or pause. Worrying sign but still my go to streaming choice

virtually nothing you can't do on YTTV that you could do on DTV. A big plus is...you do away with the stupid DTV contracts and continual sneaky rate increases. YTTV increases their rates too, but you are notified in advance...none of the sleazy stuff.
Only negative is...YTTV will run about 30 seconds behind DirecTV.

My experience is that Starlink is far superior.. no question. Both are expensive, but Starlink is of course backed by SpaceX who we all now know is the unquestioned leader in space ventures. All that said, satellite internet is still much less desirable than wired Internet. Buffering is an issue. Your TV stream will generally be able to handle buffering issues, but things like Zoom calls don't go well at all due to the buffering - just far too many drops to handle a cohesive conversation. I could not run my small business with just satellite internet. It is certainly better than nothing, but it's no where close to wired Internet.
