Interesting Baseball stats

Mar 31, 2014, 6:51 PM

Clemson leads the ACC in batting avg, coming in a .300

Clemson leads the ACC in hits w/ 273 (GT has 1 fewer hit, however they have 70 more at bats)

Clemson also leads in slugging % w/ .437

Clemson is 2nd in the ACC in runs w/ 179 (FSU leads with 215 w/ 11 more at bats)

Clemson is 2nd in the ACC in HRs w/ 16 (Miami leads w/ 17)

Clemson is also 2nd in the ACC in RBIs with 163 (FSU leads with 200)

So what to take from this? People complain about a lack of power hitting, which obviously is not the case considering the 16 HRs this season. The real problem lies in turning our hits in to runs, and improving our on-base % (4th in ACC with .369). Granted, 5 of our losses have been to teams ranked #1, but we can not keep losing midweek games to teams like WCU and GSU. Jack continues to make Clemson successful at stealing bases (although sometimes we get cocky with it), and it has been crucial in winning some of our games this year. With more experience coming to our young bullpen and continuing our trend of cutting down errors, I think the rest of this season (and especially next season) looks bright for the Tigers.

Finally, a post from somebody that is not a "glass half full" guy. Our fielding as well as our bullpen has been a real disappointment. With 6 games in the next 8 days the bullpen will have to step up. Very crucial stretch for our post season hopes. That being said, I still have high hopes for our team.

The offense seems to have settled in

like you said, we need some more timely hits. We seem to spray 1 hit an inning, but missing putting together a bunch of hits in a row. I'm still concerned with our approach at the plate, but that is more about the feel of the game than a real criticism of strategy.

Defensive stats feel like they have gotten better. But unlike at the plate, when we make an error it leads to more for them. Pitching in general and Bullpen specifically still makes me want to cringe when they come out.

A baseball season has plenty of ups and downs. We seem to be on a slight up trend now.

What

will decide this teams fate is defense and bullpen pitching. Offense and starting pitching can hang with anyone. Pitching and defense are most important with hitting a distant 3rd.
