It's unbelievable what he has been doing on the recruiting trail and hopefully we can keep him at Clemson for a long time.

While I really like Tom Allen and believe he will do great things, calling someone a home run hire before they have coached their first game is a touch premature.

Agreed, Do we even know what kind of a hire Garrett Riley has been? I’d say he’s been a good hire to this point but definitely not the “homerun” we all thought he’d be coming in. I think this upcoming season with the returning talent will have a lot to do with determining the answer to the question

Totally agree on Riley. I will say that it often takes time in the system to know for sure. As an example, the couch coaches wanted to fire Grish but he has found his stride and is killing it.

In 2020 with Trevor Lawrence, Grisham coached the most productive WR corp

in Clemson history.
Then we had two years of DJ where it wouldn’t have mattered if we had 5 Tee Higgins out there, the WRs be effective without a QB.
Then we had year 1 Cade Klubnick. Developing. Slowly the WRs began to show up.
Then we had year 2 Cade Klubnick where we finished 11th in offense. Without a running game for much of the season, WRs had to carry the team.
So, was it coaching or having a QB?

An elite QB covers all other Offense shortcomings. DJ exposed out O-Line and WR issues!
We have a great team heading into the fall. Our problem will occur if our next Elite QB does not emerge for 2026!
Go Tigers!

We won't always have an elite QB like DW4 or TL16. For example, our not taking a QB every year bit us in the rear as we had no functional depth when DJ did not pan out. At a minimum, we should have a Chase Brice or Cole Stoud on the roster who can be efficient at running the offense.

It takes a QB for WRs to succeed. Correct.

For 3 straight seasons we struggled at QB.
When we had a QB, Grisham turned Cornell Powell from a backup to an NFL draft pick. He turned Amari Rodgers into an NFL high round draft pick. Those two guys were the leaders of the most productive receiving corps in Clemson history. That was Tyler Grisham.
Of course you need a QB, otherwise positions like WR don’t look so hot. Only with a QB can you gauge the WRs. That’s the point.

And that was without an effective running game for half the year.
In year 1 he was obviously dealing with a developmental QB in Cade Klubnick.
What else could he have done?

In Riley's defense, he was hamstrung by a lack of talent. It's hard to make chicken salad out of chicken sh yt! We were hurting on the OL and at WR, as soon as that picked up then Riley could unleash his offense. I would think it is only going to get better from now on. The talent level is picking back up and if this continues then the sky is the limit.

He hasn't had the chance to do it at Clemson, but he did at Penn St, so I can assume he can get it done at Clemson also being that we can recruit as well as anyone even with us being an ACC member!!!

I agree! As soon as I saw this news I just knew this was going to be a homerun hire! Now! What I hope is happening is that we have a someone learning from him as a coach. I don't think he will be here for the long haul. Maybe he will be here 5 years?

I have no doubts that he will do just this...the guys who he had in his first year showed significant improvement from the beginning to the end of the season & they weren't even "his" guys.

Yes, hiring really experienced people who have had success

in the position for which you are hiring them is generally the best course of action.
It’s too bad Dabo decided to hire people who lacked experience and success and found out the hard way that it was a horrible idea.
But he has never failed at anything, so there’s that.

Offense keeps getting better but needs to show up vs good defenses. Something they didn't do last season.

Agreed. From the jump. I think Riley is rounding i to form as well. The Tom is also a banger. Very pleased with how Dabo has shaped up the coaching tree in the last couple years.
