In- state OL recruiting
Dec 27, 2022, 10:01 PM

Is anyone else curious and frustrated in our inability to pull the top OL players from in-state?
Missed on Freeling this cycle. Both Thompson and Pringle are projected 100% to cooterville next cycle. Makes me sick to my stomach to think about losing both of those guys to that toxic waste dump.
I realize we crapped the bed and blew the game this year but come on, there's no way that we shouldn't be pulling these guys.
What gives?

Can't really count Freeling...he was not from SC. Franks is looking good from what i've read. Pringle and Thompson grew up #### fans from what i read so that influence is heavy. OL prospects are so hit an miss and hard to evaluate from what i understand, you just never know.

All true, Pringle has a few dirt ###### friends & family in his ear. Plus he's from St. George, so that's only 45 minutes from home. Really would like to land that kid. Although it's really hard to tell how good he's really going to be due to Woodland plays a 2A schedule. I will say they have some good talent up there, but they lost some really good younger coaches several years back & since then those kids haven't seemed to develop as good.

Not to mention Clemson pulled Sadler last year who was the #1 OL in the state. Can't get everyone, every year.

Also Clemson is not getting anyone from Dillon period unless coots don't want them. The current staff thinks they are part of the Gamecock program. I don't even know why Clemson waste gas money even driving down to the school to recruit players from there. Anyone any good at all from there is not coming to Clemson and you can carry that to the bank!

Anecdotally, what I've read or heard is that over the last several recruiting cycles we have not viewed SC as all that talented for recruits and have focused our priorities on other markets. I think we have ignored some of our SC network of high school coaches and UsC has stepped in and filled that gap.
We probably have to rebuild some bridges if we want to get back to a better standing for in-state recruiting.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t care if we miss on some “in-state recruits. I just want to get the best players I. The country. I also want those who fit our mold.

Same here, I love it that when the best SC recruits choose to go to USUC to get beat by Clemson!!!!

I know a lot of folks missed on him but what a great add for us if we had him this year. And yes, I know he isn't an OL

We really haven't done too good in SC for several cycles. We have 7 players from SC that are not on the family and friends program that have actually made the 3 deep. Ironically our scout team is predominantly SC olineman... so it looks like roster wise with scout team, and the f n f program that we have our share of in state players but in reality less than 5%.

You do know Clemson signed 4 out of the top 5 in SC last year with 1 being a 5 star in Lukus. The year before that was a down year for talent with only 3 low 4 stars making up the top 3. The year before that they missed on Burch but signed Bresee. They had higher guys on the board than what was instate. SC is never going to produce a ton of talent, which has always been the case. Clemson will continue to cherry pick the state when possible.

Yup, lived there my whole life and nearing 73. Went to every Clemson game for 50+ years. Home and away. I keep up with state recruiting.
I was mearly pointing out the fact sc is not a talent rich state. Hence the comment that we only have 7 or 8 on our roster that contribute. When 50 years ago it made up probably 50+% of scar and Clemson rosters.
It's kinda odd in a way as big as football is around here. Then again, lots of bball talent. Certainly didn't think it deserved a TD.

I didn't TD you....someone else did. Population is mostly to blame for the lack of talent I imagine. We have roughly half of the total population of NC and GA. We simply don't have as many people.

It's been this way all the way back to the latter part of Holtz's tenure at Usuc. They have repeatedly beaten us for the prime in state OL talent. Whenever there are high end SC OL bluechips coming out, they are able to acquire them regardless of their history.

Missed on DL too with Burch and Pickens. They haven't been studs but been decent and will get drafted. I think those players would be a lot higher rated if they had come to Clemson or UGS/Bama. They did not develop as fast as they should but both will be NFL guys in 3yrs of play.

Burch has been a bust. He will be entering his 4th year next year. Maybe he turns it on in his 4th year but thus far a complete bust.

I saw Freeling in the state championship game vs Abbeville and wasn’t impressed at all. Got beaten routinely off the edge.

Pringle and Thompson were always going to be tough so not overly frustrated if we miss out on them. However, if we don’t land Franks and the coots do, it would be very concerning.
