We all lost. These proposed policies are going to hit all of our wallets. Some of us just see it coming before it actually happens. Two years from now when prices on consumer goods are higher than ever while corporate profits surge I'm interested to hear how you manage to blame the democrats.

Everything costs more because a global pandemic disrupted supply chain and workforces across the world and kicked off a global inflationary period. It literally would not have mattered what party was in control over the last 4 years, prices were going to reflect the global economic situation. This is not a uniquely American issue nor uniquely the result of Biden's economic policies.
Inflation has since stabilized to near pre-pandemic levels. And instead of attempting to curb price increases by working to limit corporate price gauging, we now have a president who wants to implement tariffs and deport a cornerstone of cheap labor in the country. The cost to produce items will rise dramatically and push us back into an inflationary spiral we've just crawled out of. This isn't rocket science. It's basic economics and something every single independently respected economist has warned about.

They can drink the kool-aid all they want. If Trump succeeds in implementing his stated economic and immigration policies the prices for consumer goods are not going to lie. You cannot make things more expensive to produce and also reduce the costs. And I know what the argument against will be some form of "buying American products" and "cost to produce will be less because of deregulation". But both of the rely on corporations being good actors which time and time again has been shown to be untrue.
I am morbidly curious how they'll manage to blame the democrats when it happens though.

You do realize that something produced overseas has a high transportation cost, right? Ships lose cargo to pirates, weather, etc. sometimes the whole boat is lost. If the item is produced here, the higher labor cost is offset by lower transportation cost? I haven't seen bmw costs skyrocket.....

My friend...if it was cheaper (or the same price with reduced uncertainty) to produce domestically and avoid shipping costs we'd already be doing it. The import costs (shipping, insurance, etc...) are more than made up for by cost of production in the countries we use for sourcing. Blanket tariff's both negatively change that dynamic and increase costs of production either at ports or by switching to more expensive labor costs AND result in retaliatory tariffs which hurt our exporters. I know conservatives have this unearned idea of US exceptionalism, but when it's us against the world in a trade war we will lose.
As for BMW...two of their three major semiconductor partners do the majority of their manufacturing in regions Trump wants to levy tariffs on and the US does not have the semiconductor manufacturing capacity to domestically meet these needs. Biden and the dems tried to address reliance on foreign semiconductor manufacturing with the CHIPS Act but we're only 2 years into it's deployment which is not nearly enough time to stand up high yield manufacturing plants. It's not going to matter that they're assembled in Spartanburg when the cost of the components they're assembling are getting hit with tariffs. Price will go up.

Foreign production is cheaper because people in third-world countries will work for pennies on the dollar, compared to Americans. It’s a race to the bottom, spurred on by management and shareholders, that’s been going on for YEARS.
When workers in northern industrial states unionized for better wages and working conditions, the mill owners moved south to exploit poor whites (and rolled out “right-to-work” laws to keep those pesky unions out). This continued for about 50 years…until management and shareholders discovered that poor people in Asia and Central America would work for even less than southerners. That was the beginning of offshoring. Like I said: a race to the bottom. And too many Americans have just grabbed their ankles and gone along with it, every step of the way.

Yes and no. Absolutely correct that the supply chain got wrecked. However, forcing businesses to close, people to take shots or be fired, the animosity of political parties towards certain other businesses, paying people to stay home, protracted the situation.

As I remember, she was trapped against an opening. She was there, and that's on her, but with however many people behind her, she didn't have much choice in where she stood. Either way, she wasn't in someone's private home. She was shot by a professional in a situation that did not demand it. It was a very emotionally charged moment, but the person who did It was wrong
