Just flexing because NATO has a bunch of ships in the Baltic. And because the US allowed Ukraine to hit military spots inside the Ruskie boundaries. Its supposed to be ok for Putin to hit civilian residential buildings but its bad that Ukraine can now attack interior targets. Shouldn't have taken 2yrs if you are fighting for your sovereignty.

NATO is a defensive organization organized to protect against aggression - like the present aggression shown by Russia toward Ukraine and previously toward Georgia. It was founded to prevent any aggressor country from doing what Hitler did during WW2. Putin would love to do nothing more than repeat and improve upon Hitler's near success.
There are many voices within Russia that want to grab land in eastern Europe. If those threatened countries recognize the threat and want to join NATO for what they believe would be in their best interest, they will apply for accession - like Finland and Sweden recently have done. Ukraine obviously would like to join as did Poland and the Balkan states 2 decades ago.
Putin is already running his mouth about Poland and the Balkans, so you caan't blame thresatened states for seeking alliances to prevent annihilation - particularly the ones who are on the front lines next to Russia.
NATO was not intended for - nor is it - aggression toward other nation states - but it is intended to provide collective protection for member states. AND - it's not "encroaching". The countries in eastern Europe joined NATO because they needed to and wanted to - not because NATO conquered them.

Did you take into consideration the Russian Separatists in the Donbas and Donetsk regions that were being bombed for 8 years by Ukrainian Military forces prior to Russia's invasion? More than 48,000 civilians were killed by Ukraine during that 8-year bombing campaign from 2014-2022. While my loyalty will always lie with the United States and it's agenda, I will never protect a lie to conceal the truth. At the end of the day, war does not determine who was right, but only who is left.

Yes, I did. Those Separatists were in favor of a Russian invasion of sovreign Ukraine soil and banded together under Russian collusion to help pave the way for a Russian land-grab - in the same way that Russia often operates (see Geoirgia).
The problem for the Separatists was that there weren't enough of them to effect a secession, so Russia is trying to do the job for them via an invasion:

Well, I typically take the side of who is morally correct. Bombing civilians and crucifying them along with other torture methods is what leads to the creation of a battalion such as the Anzov Battalion. I've seen intel reports and while I won't disclose anything here, I would say that Ukraine was just as guilty as Russia in the way of brutality and other forms of torture against civilians. The U.S. ignored it as they did the Taliban whenever the Taliban demanded evidence of Bin Laden's involvement in 9/11.

I don't deny that Ukraine is no angel, but then that is a very dangerous part of the world and one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist.
The history of that area shows that the Russian Separatists were nothing short of the Hamas or ISIS of Ukraine - maybe more like a more aggressive Wagner Group - but like the Wagner Group, they were Russia's fighting force. They were declared terrorists by Ukraine and launched attacks on Ukrainian government buildings quite often. Like Hamas, they hid among civilians while actually being a proxy fighting force for Russia.
Civilians often are a casualty of war when circumstances warrant it - for confirmation ask Israel or the Allies after Germany. Many civilians are dead in Palestine and Germany.
The US is just as involved in destabilazation activities as Russia, but the difference is one I can accept. We do it to spread Democracy without grabbing land and Russia does it to spread Communism and grab land.

You may be exactly right about that, but I think he's also eyeing a few other nearby countries, starting with Armenia, Azerbaijan and a part of Belarus and/or Poland and Lithuania to allow land-bridge access to Kaliningrad and the Baltic Sea.
Poland has already begun ramping up defense spending. I don't think Putin is so stupid as to attack any NATO country as Poland or the Baltic states, but as egotistic as he is, he just might. If he does, Russia is done.

There's 10 trillion dollars worth of resources in Eastern Ukraine. That's the only reason the U.S. is involved in this proxy war. And will gladly watch every Ukrainian man aged 20-60 die to make sure Russia doesn't get their hands on it. If you love supporting Ukraine so much. They'll gladly let you join a brigade of mercenaries. Maybe then they won't have to kidnap men off the street.

Good Grief! Bin Laden was on tape bragging about his foreknowledge with his terrorist henchmen, and how he had been with other terrorists celebrating after the first tower was hit. Told them to be patient, more to come. Tee hee. Used to be a confession was regarded as evidence.
Invasion of Afghanistan is debatable, if for no other reason it has never done any country any good and of course innocent people die. But Bin Laden's guilt was not a mystery to anyone.

There's a whole lot of odd to go round on all this. Why is NATO choosing to expand as aggressively it has? Did Russia/Putin have cause to believe Ukraine was to be a buffer between itself and NATO? Why have we thrown so much support to Ukraine? As for the submarine, I get Russia might wish to remind us that it still has a great deal of capability left. I wonder when we were aware it was around? I do not wonder why it hasn't been silenced by the press, but I do wonder why anti-mine ships were sent to the area... clearly among the least useful shops that mightve been deployed ? Lots of odd and yeah butts . Wish they're were some trusted source to obtain the info but the partisanship has become so thorough and complete om aware of nothing that is reliable.

During negotiations on Germany's reunification, James Baker floated a comment to Gorbachev that if he agreed with the reunification deal maybe NATO would not expand any further eastward. Gorbachev said he woud consider it. When Pres. Bush heard about it, he squashed the idea. Later Gorbachev signed off on the plan, but never said anything about further NATO expansion and there was nothing in the agreement about it.
So, Putin thinks it was part of the agreement (it wasn't) and it drives him mad that former Warsaw Pact countries want to leave as part of the Russian Federation and join NATO.
NATO believes that countries should be free to choose their destiny and what is best for them, so they have allowed some of these countries to join NATO.
NATO doesn't really want Ukraine as a member, but doesn't want Putin to have any control in the say, so NATO is leaning toward allowing Ukraine to join.

Here are some facts:
The 14 former countries which were either in the Warsaw Pact or formerly a part of another country that was a member that have joined NATO over the past 25 years are:
* 1999 - Czech Republic
* 1999 - Hungary
* 1999 - Poland
* 2004 - Bulgaria
* 2004 - Estonia
* 2004 - Latvia
* 2004 - Lithuania
* 2004 - Romania
* 2004 - Slovak Republic
* 2004 - Slovenia
* 2009 - Albania
* 2009 - Croatia
* 2017 - Montenegro
* 2020 - North Macedonia
These folks have all lived under Russian control and once on their own after the collapse of the Warsaw Pact and Russian control have decided that they now have a choice how they want to live. They recognize what Putin wants to do and want no part of it.
We did not force NATO membership on them - they requested it.
The next country to break ties with Russia appears to be Armenia. Armenia is a member of Russia's attempt to mirror NATO - the CSTO - Collective Security Treaty Organization. Russia is trying to destabilize Armenia by causing a war between Armenia and Azerbaijan - even though Armenia is a member of the pact. Armenia has now broken with Putin and CSTO and this could get really ugly. Armenia has held exercises with US troops and is asking for help from Western countries - perhaps even NATO and the EU:

This is the way Putin operates. These countries see it and know it - therefore they are tring to protect themselves from Putin's determination to rebuild the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. They want no part of it.

Well, there was this border deal that the Republicans wanted, but when they got the deal they cried about, they decided they wasn't going to sign it, and their reason for not signing it, it was to good of a deal for Biden to get credit for, and Trump wanted to save that same deal for himself if he was elected.

Yeah man, Biden gives 0 speeches a year. When he does, it’s 10 min long and he reads from the teleprompter the entire time taking a few pre selected questions. Trump gives an hr. and a half speech, supporters cheering, and takes questions from the crowd. It’s understandable needing a prompter for an hr and a half speech. He also communicates with the crowd and goes of ######, constantly.
Trump has his faults, many of them, being worse than Biden at public speaking isn’t one of them.

I have no plans to vote for Trump. He is not the type of person I ever thought would be president of the culture entrusted to us by the Founders. Biden either, but that is not the point. I can't imagine the Rep party didn't come up with another candidate.
This is therefore not an argumentative question. I am asking you because (1) I have not asked it of anyone and (2) I figure you will give me a straight up answer in the spirit of the question. So ...
Having an affair with Daniels was not illegal. Paying her to not tell an adultery story, true or not, was not illegal.
Why are people happy that we prosecuted a person for doing those two legal things? Are we happy a prosecutor said, with little legal reasoning I have heard, that doing those two legal things violated campaign law? Not only does it not seem to violate any wording of the law as it has been presented to me, but the payment was made after the election. Or am I missing something in the law?
This seems to be a place no one would want our country to go. But I figure we want the same things - truth more than outcomes - so that is why I am asking. Again, that is not argumentative. I'm not going to vote for him either (granted, might vote for no one). I am interested in what the thinking is.

That would be one of my questions. The business recorded the transaction. Even if the expense were called something it is not, how is that illegal? Every business in the country has something recorded incorrectly. For that reason, it is illegal if it is done to commit a crime. I am asking what the crime was.
It could have been recorded as "Fees for hoe", but it said, "Fees to lawyer." There's a joke in there somewhere. The fees were reported, as I understand it, on the 1099 to the lawyer. Taxes were paid. What was illegal?

I'll freely admit to my ignorance. Didnt know the details of the indictments - knew it had to do with campaign law - and didnt follow details of the trial. Not planning to vote for him, not worth the time. But the headlines were all about Daniels and him paying her. That's not illegal. I have not heard anyone say how it became illegal.

He falsified business records in order to skirt New York election law. He knew the information getting out could affect the election. He also knew the payments to Cohen were to reimburse Cohen for paying off Daniels, but they portrayed them as Cohen's retainer for "legal expense".
Falsifying business records is a felony.
"Under New York law, falsification of business records is a crime when the records are altered with an intent to defraud. To be charged as a felony, prosecutors must also show that the offender intended to "commit another crime" or "aid or conceal" another crime when falsifying records."

A jury can't convict - only a judge can do that. And the judge in NY has still not filed a verdict.
Many Constitutional-violating arguments can be made against the NY trial. Most notably 6th Amendment violations.
I'm wondering if the judge knows this trial will be overturned in Federal court during appeals and is hesitant to file a verdict.
Time will tell. Just thought y'all should know he is not a convicted felon. (And yes, I know the jury found him guilty on all counts.)

The population of Cuba would love to be a US territory but the govt of Cuba would not since they are communist. The govt still recognizes Fidel Castro as the Prime Minister/President even though he is dead. Diaz-Canel is the highest ranked person in the Communist party as Secretary but is acting President since '21. But I assure you that Cubans would love nothing more than to remove sanctions and become a territory much like Puerto Rico. This will never happen as the Communist Party leads the country.

FYI, the sanctions had relaxed until about 2-4yrs ago when Diaz-Canel took over and invited Russia to place missiles on Cuba proper. The sanctions were harsh enough that Cuba removed the missiles as their country couldnt feed their people. Upon removal we sent tons of food to Cuba and not even Russia helped. I am sure these sanctions will likely ramp up again.
The other reason for current Russian exercises in Cuba is to recruit military personnel to fight Ukraine war. Russia is giving Cubans 6mo contracts to fight with guaranteed pay of 2yrs salary. Several thousand Cubans have already gone to fight and hundreds have already died as they are sent to front line immediately. They are disposable and don't affect the politics as much to lose foreign fighters versus Russians.

Honestly, I really don't believe that Russia or Putin wants anything to do with any kind of war that would involve the US directly bc, with just the limited armament that we've gave to Ukraine to fight against Russia, it has held Russia back from taking over Ukraine since they first went to war with Ukraine back in Feb. 2022.
I think that most of Russia's military might is old and outdated, and I think that their nuclear armament is pretty much in the same condition as the rest of their tools of war.
But hopefully in the near future when most of Russia's older people that grew up believing in the old ways that Russia could and should be the bully and press fear over the European continent was the best way to keep war away and out of from the Soviet Union, but IMO those days of the Soviet Union might has long been gone, and that is the very reason that the sword rattling of their nuclear power that Putin always threatens is just what it is, a threat, but I personally believe that it's pretty close to being a toothless threat. Putin is X KGB that still carries his evil ways, but the last thing that Putin wants to test is their nuclear capability against the nuclear capability of the United States of America.
In no way shape or form do I believe that the United States would fire a nuclear missile at any country in the world regardless of their military might, but be assured that no country in the world wants to fire one toward the United States or any of our closest Allies bc I personally that the US would step up to the plate if Russia or China was to use nuclear power against one of our very close Allies bc we gave our word to help protect them as if we were fired Apon, and countries word is only as good as their response to help....

Haven’t read this entire thread but I will offer this as someone with plenty of personal experience conducting naval weapons exercises in the Caribbean. That’s where the U.S. 6th fleet ( east coast navy ) goes to do that type of training. The weather down there is always perfect for it. And international law says once you’re 12 miles away from anyone’s land, you’re in international waters anyway.
We have our allies meet us there for joint exercises regularly. We don’t have a right to tell other countries else they can’t use that playground themselves.
I have personally participated in too many weapons exercises down there to count on my fingers and toes. It usually comes with some pretty good liberty ports when the training is done.
That’s the last trigger pull I ever had there.

The Navy was much smarter. We had a nuclear attack dub trailing the Russian sub, undetected. The USN sub surfaced and went into port in Guantanamo Bay the day after the Yasin class boste docked in Havana.
