I'm accused of being a fair weather fan....

I'm 45. Attended my first Clemson FB again when I was 12 (played NCST). Graduated Clemson in '90. IPTAY member and season ticket holder since 2000.
But enough is enough. We lost to a team that was using their backup QB. Losing 4 straight to USC cannot be called an anomaly. Regretfully it is the new normal.
This can be traced back to USC joining the SEC and the SEC continuing to grow as a FB conference and the ACC continuing to diminish as a FB conference.
The solution is simple....either change or continue to diminish. Stay in the ACC and become the odd man out in the playoffs competing with four super-conferences. Stay in the ACC and continue to lose out on 5* recruits.
Ask a recruit if he'd rather play UGA, Tenn, Ark, FL, Bama, Auburn, LSU, TAMU, MissSt, Ole Miss or would he rather plan BC, Pitt, Syracuse, UVA, Duke, WF, GT, or UCONN/Louisville. The answer is pretty simple!

This SEC hype is not going away and will continue to grow. ESPN and CBS take EVERY opportunity to tout their product (as should any good marketer). To think this does not have any effect on a kid is LUDICROUS.

Yep, We are only as good as our competition.
Look at how poorly the ACC did yesterday against the SEC.
Sure we can contend with FSU to win an ACC title year in and year out, but we will never rise above that on a national scale while playing in the ACC.
The polls, as much as we don't like them, tend to be pretty accurate. The 2 top teams in the ACC aren't competitive with 2 mid level teams in the SEC.
We don't get any national respect because we don't deserve it. Sad but true in that the few chances we have gotten over the last 5-7 years prove ourselves, we've laid an egg.
The only redemeeming thing in our loss last night and FSU's victory over us is that hopefully we won't get embarrased in the national spotlight again this bowl trip.

1[spending it], spurrier changing his spots was another.
it wasn't 20 cummulative years in the sec for scar to catch up, it took them the willingness to stick with spurrier and give him everything he wanted.
they've bought millions and millions in land and developed it. they've sold their soul from a disciplinarian standpoint[imo], the first year he took over he was vilified by hs coaches for saying goodbye to recruits. he told them to go screw, that it was a one year deal and the kids had to earn it every year. he continues to replace 'under performing' kids with new stock.
where's the outrage? where is all that now? where are the hs coaches steering their kids away from the evil empire?
he's threatened media with their jobs and gotten away with it.
it hasn't been 20 years of the sec, it's been 4-5 of willingness to play the game.
whitneygate aside, it's different in columbia and spurrier ain't mr fun n gun anymore. they're playing big/bad boy football now.

which is something they didn't do for this first 15 years in the conference. Ironically, I actually think losing so much to us during the TB era finally drove them to being so committed to winning.

Am glad Clemson is not either. Some prices are too much to pay. It may be naive, but I think you can win with integrity, and ultimately doing things the right way will pay dividends in getting the right kinds of recruits that build a football dynasty the right way. It does not mean there will not be growing pains, but I do think we are on the right track. I hate losing to SC as much as anyone, and until we can kick that monkey off our backs, we will not have reached all our goals, but this year has not been a total loss. We are 10-2, and yes, that is in the ACC, but it is not easy to win 10 games, and we are going to a decent bowl game, and next year still looks bright.

willing to set aside and/or accept to win football games.
clemson will win games, clemson will probably have 'great' seasons if they stay the course. what could clemson be if they did things a little 'differently'? if they played the pulling schollies game or admitted the jarriel kings and others. people that want clemson in the sec need to understand what it will take to be successful there or get used to 8-4 seasons and chik bowls or worse.
the urgency i think changes when your instate rival has gone the win at all costs road & has won 4 in a row in a series dominated by clemson.
i prefer the right way, but there are other coaches that could do it the right way as well.

Spurrier also had changes made to their admission policy

The NCAA Clearinghouse approved two signees from South Carolina’s highly touted 2007 recruiting class, but the university denied them admittance.
Spurrier said he felt he “misled.” Michael Bowman of Wadesboro, N.C. and Arkee Smith of Jacksonville, Fla. when he and his coaching staff allowed them to sign with the Gamecocks on February’s National Signing Day. Spurrier, now in is his third season at South Carolina, said he is not satisfied with the university’s decision.
“I have to apologize to two young men that we recruited,” said Spurrier. “They qualified, they signed with us in February, (and) they were denied admission by our school. Personally, I don’t think that’s the way you do business.”
"As long as I’m the coach here we’re going to take kids that qualify,” said the coach. “If not, then I have to go somewhere else.”
