Those were roughly the words of a recent Sirius College Sports talking head as he was trashing Dabo for not being all gung-ho on the portal. Guess what else this guy does in addition to talking? Right, he runs a player marketing outfit and gets commissions for landing portal players with teams and NIL deals.

Can you imagine how awful it would be for the industry were Dabo and Clemson to go out there this season and pretty much run the table? Make it to the Semis or Natty game or God forbid win the whole thing? That prospect would throw a wrecking ball through much of the industry and many of the new livelihoods that NIL and the portal have created.

Dabo will get zero love from most talking heads. Too many have skin in another game being played here. Even if we were to go deep and come up short - any stumble is going to bring out a loud chorus of 'told you so's' regardless of whether we blow away their expectations ahead or not.

The worst thing possible for the current state of affairs in college football is a successful Clemson Tiger football team. I love it!

Go Tigers!

That is why NIL will never be fair and unbiased. Too many people (agents) and NIL programs allowing people to make money for their commissions or percentage selling players or buying players. There has to be some restrictions added to this whole mess.

When was college football ever fair and unbiased? The schools with the most resources have always had an advantage.

There won't be any legally enforceable restrictions until the players are employees paid directly by the schools. There will probably need to be some kind of collective bargaining agreement as well.

I guess you missed the ruling; schools now have to pay athletes revenue sharing. Paid employees.

It was a settlement, not a ruling. The settlement doesn't require the players to be made employees, and there's no revenue-sharing agreement actually in place yet.

"The agreement sets the stage for a future revenue-sharing model."

"The NCAA and its conferences will hammer out the details of new revenue-sharing and governance models over the next few months."

I dunno what Clemson would do without the 12 jobs at 110 society. Really shaping the landscape. Most others are volunteers.

NIL broke amateur sports. Period. They should pull all scholarships including housing, meal ticket, nutritionists, trainers, and weight rooms. Everyone seems to forget the real value of a D1 scholarships is around $500k over four years.

Congratulations. College sports just became the minor leagues for pro sports. For the love of the game is dead. It shows on the field as well.

Mark my words; Oregon, Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M and USC will dominate championships. No one else can compete with their money. Phil Knight and big oil will own the landscape. Parity is dead. Georgia Tech, Colorado, Clemson and any other small school can forget competing against the corporate machine.

Some schools probably will end up pulling scholarships, but they won't be able to compete with the schools that continue to offer them. I think that would be a foolish choice for schools like Clemson. The cost of offering those scholarships isn't much compared to how much money they make from their football programs.

College football has been the de facto minor league for the NFL for a long time now. It's virtually impossible to make it to the NFL without playing college football. That has a lot to do with why the courts have ruled the way they have. If there were other realistic options for aspiring professional football players besides playing in college, the courts would have been much more likely to allow the NCAA to continue operating with all of the previous restrictions on pay, transfers, etc.

The schools chose this path because they wanted the revenue that came with it. Now they're dealing with the consequences of their actions.

Add in the costs behind the state-of-the-art training tools and programs plus the salaries behind the pros running all of that, and you're well over a $ Million per over four years prior to any other type of compensation.

I saw where a NFL combine training program is like $40-50k for a month of work getting ready. That investment in every team member's improvement is seldom addressed in the current climate.
