If we beat the Coots do we really want Miami to lose?

I mean if we beat the coots we are in the playoffs without Miami losing. But if we beat the coots and Miami loses and we lose to SMU we probably don’t make the playoffs. So I think we want Miami to win right?

It might be a better situation for us to beat the coots and have Miami win and go to the ACC championship

No. We can't move up just by beating SC. We need teams ahead to lose.

You always want to win your conference.
You want to start on the road instead having a bye in a Bowl game?

I dont know if I could live in a world where we win a natty in a year we lose to the coots. That season would have to have asterisk in my eyes.

I don’t know about that. If it’s a close game I believe both will get in. The committee has said that making it to your championship is a recognized accomplishment. They take that into consideration.

Not that the ESPN Playoff Predictor means much but they have us only at a 37% chance of an at large bid IF we beat the Coots. I'd rather not leave it in the committee's hands so I say, "Go Syracuse."

I don’t THINK they will punish a team for losing its conference title. That will reduce the value of a conference title. However, I could be wrong, and that would cause a lot of problems. But I think if we beat SC we have a great shot of being in

Was just about to post this Jessy… if we beat the cluckers we are getting in 100%
The biggest question was would we be ahead of Alabama and Ole Miss and sure enough we are.
If we beat the cluckers we are in bc Miami or SMU have to lose and Texas or Georgia have to lose bc of conference championships which would put us in the field clearly.
So yes… as crazy as it sounds and assuming we beat the cluckers… I think we actually want Miami to beat Syracuse and keep us out of the ACC title game bc that would only knock us out if we lost.
I’m stunned they put us ahead of Alabama and Ole Miss but that’s exactly what we needed and we got it.
It’s all up to the team now. Bottom line… beat SC and Miami beats Syracuse and we are in!

The Committee has indicated repeatedly, that they would be reluctant to punish anyone losing their championship game (an extra game against top-notch competition).

From ESPN story: No. 12 Clemson would be the first team left out of the playoff, with the Tigers ranked ahead of three-loss SEC bubble teams Alabama (No. 13), Ole Miss (No. 14) and South Carolina (No. 15). But the ACC landing three teams in the top 12 this week could be an encouraging sign that the conference has an opportunity to earn two bids in the final bracket.

Jessy,
NO. I think if we beat the coots and do not get into the ACCCG, then our ticket to the CFP is very shaky.
If we want to get into the CFP, we have to beat the coots - and get into the ACCCG. Even if we lost that game to SMU, I think we would be more likely to get into the CFP than the above scenario.

It's definitely not certain we get in by beating the coots. If no upsets, the committee would have to jump us over Indiana or the ACCCG loser, and who knows what the committee will do. Even if we'd be in, the only reason to not want Miami to lose is if you only care about making the playoffs and care absolutely nothing about trying to win it. Would you rather play SMU in Charlotte for a spot in the final 8 or one of Oregon/Ohio St/Texas/Penn St/Notre Dame/Tennessee on the road for a spot in the final 8?

Are you saying you don't have confidence that our Tigers can't beat SMU? Think about this. Top 4 conference champions get a bye. For that to happen for us, we need to beat the coots, Miami lose, then we beat SMU. Then we need Boise to lose or not look good so we can jump them in the polls. If that happens we then play the winner of 5 vs 7 which then would likely be Penn St vs Boise. I would take that game.

We would still get 2 weeks before the playoff first round and a potential home game since we would be ranked higher after that. At this point, the Citadel game was our rest week…we are as healthy as we’re going to be. Plus, SMU is a playoff team…might as well go ahead and get started with the playoffs.
I do hear people when they say that the loser of the ACCCG might not be out. I do think that since we could be left out of ACCCG because of a ‘non-head to head’ tiebreaker…that the committee has to consider that as well and that might help our at-large chances.

Keeps our destiny in our hands. If there's a chance to win a conference championship and get a guaranteed spot with a first round bye, you'd be silly not to pull for that scenario.
Haven't we learned not to leave it up to others by now?
