Trent Pearman scored a TD with Wesco, Williams, and Randall at WR

in just a few plays
Cade never ever threw it to Bryant Wesco. like never looked at him or thought about throwing to him
Wescos first catch when he slid through the linebackers and everything so smoothly
and then his TD catch say it all
Cade cannot give the ball to playmakers .
he has to improve

They didn't miss on them. You are expecting every quarterback from here on out to be Deshaun Watson/Trevor Lawrence. That's simply not going to happen. It was never going to happen.

Unfortunately this was the worst performance by a starting QB

… and EVERYONE needs to get better by 1% every week. Some players are doing that, others are not.
I watched the QB’s warm up throws before the game and while just about all of Vizzina’s and Pearman’s throws were chest high, right in the receivers’ hands, and placed well (leading, back shoulder, etc), unfortunately, Cade’s throws were not consistent.
Maybe the pressure of being the starter is getting to him, or maybe he needs a little harder self-evaluation to realize he’s not where he needs to be yet. Either way, Cade needs to step up in a BIG way.
And while some people will say “it was only a spring game” … well … it was only a spring game for Pearman and Vizzina too and their performances were much better.

If you thought Vizzna's performance was better then Cade's you must have watched a different game then I did. Cade did not look great, but Vizzina was awful. Pearman was very good. I hope things improve for Cade, but I am skeptical. Vizzina is in way over his head at this level.

Vizzina played at a lower level of HS competition in HS than did CK2.
I’m betting that Vizz’s rate of improvement … and his ultimate ceiling …will exceed that of all the QB’s on our current roster.

Re: Cade was actually bad though. Like worse than an average FBS QB***

Arm talent is not CK2’s primary strength. Character, work ethic, toughness, linear running speed, and natural leadership qualities are his inherent high level attributes.
He also seems to possess very good intelligence.
Whether he can acquire the situational awareness, field vision, and proper decision-making needed to be an exceptional QB before the start of the season is the big question. He improved in each of these areas last year, but was still a long ways from being excellent in these facets of the QB game.
Part of his mental / psychological development needs for him to understand that he is not endowed with superior arm talent. Continued hard work by him will lead to ongoing incremental improvement is his passing game, though. As long as he recognizes his limitations as a passer and incorporates that self-recognition into his during-the-play decisions, then he’ll have mastered an important skill.
Play smart and don’t try to be a hero.
I am confident that he will be good enough in these areas for us to win big again in 2024.

Did anyone notice that we have no running game? The only runs were scrambles by the QB where there was a bust in containment by some reserves. Of course there was no run blocking. No change from last year from where I sat and watched. Lot's of first team O lineman on the Orange squad that struggled with mostly back up D lineman. Nobody able to consistently block any of the first team D lineman. And Cade was throwing to Williams, Wesco, and Adam Randall. CV was attempting to throw to Hamp Earle, Tink Kelley, and Ronin Hanafin. He did have Josh Sapp in some as well. CV running behind a mostly second team line gave him no chance. Our top RB was Peyton Streko. Green and Eziomume showed nothing (they struggled to get back to the line of scrimmage). Adams did not fare much better but nobody passed him on this day. If someone thinks this offense can compete with UGA I would like some of the hopiuum they are smoking. And no, Cade was not particularly sharp even though the odds were stacked in his favor.

We have new Centers competing for Will Putnam’s job. Putnam was very good for us last year.
Starting OG Walker Parks did not play yesterday. As for Markus Tate (who is our best lineman), I suspect that he was instructed to take it a bit easy so that he wouldn’t reinjure the leg that got hurt late last season.
Oh yeah … #7 didn’t play yesterday.
Given that our best three interior OL players from last year either didn’t play, or were kept quasi-under wraps, it would have been a shocker if our O vs W game showed a strong run game.

Deshaun and Trevor. We went from two Heisman finalists to guys that are below average D1 QBs. If you were to rate QBs on a scale of 1-10 where Watson and Lawrence were 10s, DJ and Cade have been like a 4. It's not like we fell from a 10 at QB to an 8. This has been a massive drop-off in production from that position.

Watching Trent Pearman, I was reminded of

Rodney Williams. Rodney didn’t have the physical gifts of a Trevor Lawrence or a Deshaun Watson, but he had the football IQ.
I was (fervently) hoping to see improvement in Cade yesterday, but what I saw was the same bad decision-making that caused so many problems last season. I don’t know if it’s a lack of guidance or overconfidence on his part; is it possible he doesn’t understand how much he needs to improve? Has no one had that difficult conversation with him? Maybe nothing’s registering with him except Dabo’s speech yesterday about how great Cade’s going to be - but we’re not seeing that potential realized.
If Cade can’t or won’t improve (and some HS standouts never make the jump to the next level), then maybe Trent Pearman should get his shot at being the next Rodney Williams.

Indeed. Pearman reminds me of Stetson Bennett. Neither has a big arm, but both are Tom Brady like accurate, and Pearman’s FB IQ looks like it may be in line with Bennett’s.
I’m going with the optimistic mind frame that CK2 will have a superb summer, and that his decision making + self-recognition that his arm talent will never be elite will transform him into a QB that wins bigly by the start of the 2024 season.

You are correct pearman has the IQ to play as a high school QB he was given the call to make audibels at the line because he could read defenses. I hope they move him up and give him a shot . The Kid has determination and is a winner.

I’m all for giving Pearman all the opportunity to take the reins, but Stetson Bennett had Brock Bowers who was a One-man wrecking crew/game changer. We don’t have anyone like that on our offense. We have some good players, no doubt. Bowers was unguardable in college though.

Cade, I'm sure, is a nice young man but a D1 QB, not so much. I struggle to find improvement from year 1 to the present. Pearman demonstrated the best opportunity to win from the QB position. I'm sure Dabo will continue to sacrifice the entire team for his loyalty towards one guy. The downward spiral on offense will continue, it's sad.

Being a long time Clemson Fan and going to and watching many spring games in the past, I think many are forgetting or at least not remembering that all spring games are just Practice and Evaluation games. If you go to them expecting to see a great performance and a Quarter back that is going to lead us to a national championship then you will always come away disappointed.
No one on offense, especially quarterbacks looks great, the offensive line, the receivers or anybody looks up to what is expected if you go with that attitude. The defense has more opportunity to shine in these situations. They always have and always will.
IMO it sounds like lots of good potential on both sides of the ball. The offense will always be slower to evolve. Fans need to cut out negative comments about what happens in these spring games and remember we are Clemson. Go Tigers!
