I would love it if any college coach

Would recruit for and run the I-formation against todays LBs and DBs that are made to cover the spread. Think about Mafah at FB and Ship at RB punching people in the mouth for 4-5 yds a clip, then a play action over the top to Williams, Collins, Briningstool or whoever. When I was doing off-season workouts in ‘04 as a walk-on, Batson and coach Ron West wanted me at 235-240lbs to play OUTSIDE LB!!! Today 5* outside LBs are 205-215. Running power would be a fun way to torture other teams.

I’m sure it would be tough to implement today, but at some point, somebody is going to do it.

I-formation was a play-action more like a pro offense. You could run Pro sets (two wide outs, one TE, and a slot) and throw it all over the yard

Alabama got forced to change their ways by none other than Clemson. If youre a plodding offense you have to play dang near perfect defense against all these wide open offenses.

Yeah but you know the offenses always evolve. At some point it will evolve back to run heavy. It will be glorious

Always a possibilty but i dont see it going back to old school Iform. In some ways the evolution of the rpo has taken it back to smash mouth football though to your credit.

Auburn should get the credit for making Bama change. That is why Lane Kiffen was hired in 2014 to change the offense.
