I wonder if I can remember how to bowl?

I’m going with my 23 year old Clemson grad son today. I started bowling at age 6, back in 1968. By the time I was 10, my average was about 140. I bowled on the high school team where my average went up to the high 180s. I even took a bowling class at Clemson (in the student union) and still averaged in the 180s. Our teacher for that bowling class was the Clemson swimming coach. He would get pissed at me and my roommate for going to The Corporation or Edgar’s bar in the union before class. So I guess I’ll find out today if bowling is like riding a bike.

The bowling technique will likely be there for you - just be careful not to throw a hip, shoulder, or back out trying to get the body parts to do things they haven't done in decades.

I have broken 200 many times when I was a teenager, but I went bowling maybe 6 months ago and the best I could do was 120. I sucked. But the shoes were too grippy and the ball Infound was uncomfortable, so who knows. It was still good fun.

Didn’t see your post before mine, but sounds like we had similar experiences. At least you probably remained upright

I bowled a lot in my youth and carried about the same average as you in some beer drinking, fun leagues
I too went bowling with my family after about 15 years of not bowling. Most came back at once (not the old average), except for that left foot. On my first shot, I planted that left foot, had too much weight forward, and ended up prone in the lane. At least I brought joy to my family

Bought a bike a few years ago and yes I remembered how to ride it but it felt really strange and I did not have much confidence. Sold it to someone who was planning on using it a lot more than I did.

Have gone once since Vietnam and found out quick that my bad left leg just wouldn’t work and slide. Tried adjusting to a three step delivery with my right leg out front as I released the ball! Not good results but at least I didn’t end up on a stretcher.

I could not roll a 140. Not a sport I played a lot but was awful anytime I tried it. Hope you roll them well!

of not doing it. My big observations were as follows 1) Lane/Shoes too grippy, as a young man I remember "sliding" into the last 4-5' of the throw, now I just hard stop like anti-lock brakes, maybe its just I'm fat. 2) In modern lanes there are no clouds of second hand clouds of nicotine to charge my bowling. 3) Music sucks 4) Costs a sh*tton to bowl 5) No Pinball machines, Space Invaders or Pacman machines

I think the grippy shoes are the new deal. Maybe they think they are safer? There is no was to slide.

Well I SUCKED

First game was 137 and second game was 147. What made it worse was the bowling shoes were super slick. I was fighting to not slip to the floor. I tried spitting on them but I couldn’t keep them from being too slick. My very last throw, I actually tweaked my left hamstring. Now that absolutely sucks. I guess I’ll have to stretch my hammies before I bowl for Heavens sake. I sucks getting old.

147 is pretty solid. Well I think grippy shoes are worse. Then again, I didn't try yours.

just wait ! I was lucky to survive yesterday , carrying furniture down a narrow stairway with shorter than usual steps. And who makes a mattress with nothing to get a grip ?

We bought mattress covers when we moved my son out a month ago. The covers have straps on them to help carry them. Worked great.

I remember mattresses with cord handles on the sides but none on this one yesterday.
