I know it would be risky hire, but would you accept Pitino

if he showed interest in coming here. He certainly could be a program changing hire with instant credibility to recruits. I know he was named in the recent investigation, which I admit causes me some pause that he might do it again. However, im sure we could put lots of CYA language in the contract to protect us financially and allow us to fire him for any additional infractions if they occur. Again, I know this would be very risky and im not even sure how I completely feel about it, but I think this program just needs something that can just get us over the hump and then we can go from there. We have had a few coaches that have been close OP/Barnes/Ellis/BB but none have had the consistent success to get us over the hump. I think Barnes was the closest before he left.
Pitino is currently coaching in Greece and has expressed interest in returning to the college game. If we were willing to make the move and take the chance, our AD would have to be willing to make a huge commitment to bball and open up the checkbook.

comparison with #1. If you compared coaching ability alone I take Pitino all day long over BB. Now factoring in his past im not so sure. Like I said, im not totally on board with it, I just was reading somewhere recently that he wanted to get back to coaching college and wanted to pose the question.

but he also bangs skanks in restaurants, he pays for hookers for recruits and players and he pays for recruits and steers them towards shoe contracts.
UCLA could have hired him, but never really considered it. So why the #### would Clemson consider it? Easy answer, they wouldn't.

His approach and style of play is what we need. His personality is a great fit. Spare no expense if there is an opportunity to get him. I would kick Coach B upstairs, make him an assistant AD or something.

Shaka has the ability to get the best out of his people. We need somebody who can "make chicken salad out of chicken chit". Right now, we have a program that has a tendency to throttle back people. We are too mechanical, too predictable. We need LOOSE.

Why would you spare no expense for a guy who has Texas as a middle of the pack Big 12 team at the moment? Seems to be the equivalent of where Clemson currently sits in the ACC. He had a nice NCAA run with VCU in 2010-2011, but other than that nothing to write home about.

Well, that would be a return to OP. Shaka is a direct coaching link.
The problem now with Shaka and the OP coaching tree is that the "Havok Defense" has been around for 10+ years and most (good) coaches can adjust to it. So hiring that brand of basketball is investing after the bubble has burst. It is a gimmick scheme and while it can produce some wins, it has the same issues a CJP flexbone option. That was even why OP was getting a limited return on investment.

I think winning is important but is NOT everything. There is a price to pay taking shortcuts and hiring Divas. Not to beat a dead horse.. but I would like coaches like Dabo whether they win or not. Of course Dabo's winning has created a new expectation for all clemson sports programs. Lets be practical - Clemson is an academic institution and sports is part of it and not other way around.

What we want to do across our programs is to leverage the culture and brand that Dabo created. You’re talking about hiring an ethically bankrupt coaching legend with a name arguably bigger than Dabo’s, and at the very least a personality that would compete with Dabo as the face of Clemson. We absolutely do not want that.

No not even if he won a NC at Clemson!! I would feel like as a Clemson fan we would lower or standards and character to hire someone like Pitino. It could affect the culture the current coaches have worked so hard to establish.
If Clemson were to associate with Pitino, those who had to deal with him might feel the need to shower afterwards. His reputation is that nasty.

I forgot to add, that I wouldn't take him over CBB right now. I just meant if we were doing a coaching search because CBB was no longer, that I wouldn't see it as a bad hire, depending who our options were.

LOL - I wanted Pitino when he was coaching the Celtics and was leaving Boston. But, we chose another guy and Pitino had a #1 team shortly after that at UL. But, history has clouded Pitino being a viable candidate at CLEMSON. So much for that, as that boat has sailed I guess. CLEMSON does NOT typically go after high-profile coaches. We just have to find the 'diamond in the rough' and be extremely lucky (not smart, just lucky) to get a great coach that wins a lot. JMO though, but I doubt seriously that I'm wrong.
