I think it’s time to look around after the season. We are not even a top 50 defense this season thus far.

The nepo coaches need to get gone quicker than they are. We are Clemson. Dabo knows he has to surround himself with the best coaches. I don’t know why he made the hires he did.

How is Goodwin a “nepo coach”?
Apparently Captain Call lost his dictionary unless Wes is secretly related to Dabo

Never have liked Wes as coordinator. There is absolutely no aggression at all on defense. Instead of playing an attacking style defense they now play a more wait & react defense. I don’t like it.

How does this help your case any? So Clemson’s starting defense has done exactly what they are supposed to do. Shut down inferior competition.

I just have concerns about how good they will be against better competition. After Wake, the next 4 games are against teams that are collectively 15-6.
I think we will have to be better to get through those unscathed.

I’ll agree with your point there. But I played collegiate sports and sometimes you play to the competition’s level. I would and do expect Dabo to make sure the team is ready for any and all teams we have left.

Nobody doubt Dabo on getting them ready. I just doubt SOME of his hires and their abilities. Not him, Dabo is the man.

I understand your concerns. But good teams will score against good defenses. If we play top tier offenses they will score at least 27. Even when we finished top 3 in defense all those years. We gave up points to good offenses. But our offense has to be able to keep up. Still not convinced all the way they can. But has made great improvements!

Hmm, so should we just go ahead and say that the Tigers lost tonight since we allowed them to actually score or get some 1st downs.
You play who you play. I’d say Clemson has performed very strongly in beating those teams by an average of 30ish points a game. Some teams would be happy with that today and tonight, I’ll take the winning by wide margins every time.

We have also played backups who gave up a lot of those yards.

If you actually watch the games, which you should

You would know how many 1st quarter points Clemson has given up all season is 0!!!! 5 games and not a single point.
Clemson has scored 90 1st quarter points!!
90-0 in quarter 1, I’d say that’s not only good but elite!
Other than Georgia game, not a single game has been in question after 1st quarter!!
Total domination offense and defense!!
Wes Goodwin is doing great.

We don’t watch the same games. That was the worst offense in college football. They dropped 150 total yards. Secondary was exposed. That isn’t Clemson defense. I have no emotional deal with Goodwin like some of you do. He should do whatever he did before after this season at OU and we should get a real DC.

Lol emotional deal. Not sure what that means other than you don’t like him because his defense doesn’t yield negative yardage in games. Or because they aren’t perfect and make every play. Or does it mean you are unrealistic as a fan since you seem to only see bad stuff which you purposely look for.
Relax and enjoy the winning. Could the defense be better, probably so, but I’ll continue to wait on a team to score in a first quarter. I’m hoping it last at least another game or 2.
We will disagree. I see the reality of a young coordinator growing into his role nicely.

Lol, pray tell, who could we hire who is demonstrably better that is not already a head coach making 7-8 figures? Wes is a genius and is doing a heck of a job. It is not his fault when guys miss tackles and coverage assignments.

He is no Brent Venables, but this just is not our best front 7 at Clemson, the secondary is extremely; young, and we have zero quality depth at LB. He has done a good job with what he has this year.
We have some extremely gifted players in Woods, Parker, an now it looks like Hampton Brown, and Terrell.
I am a little worried about building depth on the line, it seems nearly impossible with the transfer portal and kids wanting playing time.

What I saw tonight was not Clemson defense
Oct 6, 2024, 12:59 AM
|
|
But I’m old enough to remember the “Orange Crush” defense of the late 1970s and 1980s. Those guys actually took roll call as they got up off the ballcarrier: it was a point of pride for everyone to be involved. There was none of this arm-tackling, and very few missed tackles: Coach Ford said, “When we hit you, you stay hit.” (Again, pride.) And the pass rush was fierce. Of course, back then Coach Ford could keep those guys on the practice field as long as he wanted - but Brent Venables’s defenses did have more of that “Orange Crush” mentality than I’m seeing now.

A modern offense that spreads the field with speed unheard of in the 80s. The entire game has changed. Those long drives Stanford had that ended in interceptions? Those are wins in today’s college football. Yards don’t matter. Points are all that matter and outside of the points NCSU put up against our third string and Georgia after the defense ran out of gas because the offense couldn’t move the ball…this defense has been very good at what matters.

Not true. It was 13-3 with 4 min left in the 3rd. We essentially had a little over 1 quarter of a bad defense against the #1 team after our O couldn’t hold up their end

It's not like Dabo hasn't had to fire one of his coaches. Would not be his first time at the rodeo doing so. Sometimes things just don't work out. The good news is history has shown he will do it if necessary.
