I think people are having a huge knee jerk reaction

We had a bad night for sure team wide. Obviously weren't in the least bit prepared for getting punched in the mouth by Louisville. I think we are still a better team than Louisville and given the chance again it wouldn't be close. But Saturday night just wasn't our night.
With that said, this team is light years better than any team we fielded 2021-2023 overall. However, this defense is the worst defense we've fielded since 2011 or 2012.
This season reminds me a bit of 2011 when the offense took off but the defense was a liability that led to some bad blow outs with us as the punch line.
It's time the Wes Goodwin experiment ended.

You said it yourself 2021-2023...not a knee jerk reaction. Just prior to the game several people were talking to me about how good they thought we were and would love another shot at Georgia. I said I was still unsure how good we really were as I thought every team other than one was better than everyone we had played other than UGA. I said we would see who we really were starting this past Saturday, not sure that is knee jerk.

What this guy said. It's not a knee jerk reaction at all. It's been a downward trend since 2019. And it's even worse this year when you look into the numbers. Anybody who was thinking that we were "back" because of the 6 game winning streak was kidding themselves. Here are some alarming rankings:
Off PPG Off YPG Off YPP Def PPG Def YPG Def YPP UGA : 14 38 32 14 12 15 APP ST: 79 32 48 121 117 130 NC ST : 56 89 61 104 86 91 STAN : 118 122 128 123 110 120 FSU : 133 132 130 96 109 93 WF : 77 60 78 105 120 106 UVA : 83 57 71 87 105 102 UL : 21 19 10 67 72 48 Avg : 75 69 70 67 91 88
CLEM : 9 5 21 68 52 68
So the offense looks pretty good until you look at the defensive rankings of the teams they beat. They're all in the bottom third. The offensive output against UGA's top 15 defense was abysmal, and while 450 yards looks decent against UL's average defense, the 4.5 YPP would be good for #130 in FBS this year, tied with FSU.
And then you have the defense, which is squarely in the middle of the pack despite not playing a single elite offense this season. The only positive is that, unlike most of the teams on Clemson's schedule, Clemson doesn't have an FCS opponent on their record yet to prop up the defensive numbers.

The offense sucks too. It was just a matter of time before they faced someone with a pulse. Cade is much improved but the receivers and brinny are average. Unfortunately Moore can’t catch deep balls and Wesco is gimpy all the time. Not being able to run the ball was the biggest disappointment…..

Chuck we disagreed on Klubnik early and I'm glad to see you no longer avidly hating on him. Now I get to inform you TJ Moore will be the best downfield threat since Tee over the next 3 years, that's coming. His "drop" should've been PI if you go back an rematch it, yes he also should've caught it but he is a true freshmen and coached up by Grisham, Drew Swinney, and Cole Stoudt so he's not as far along as Tee. After Moore goes outside and gets private wr coaching this off-season youre going to be a TJ Moore lover.

Oh yeah he’s already good and will be great. The team just needs him to be great now. Asking a lot of him early tbh but I just would like to see him catch some down field when Cade puts it there. Seems like everytime the DB is on him though. You’re right

Understood but I see it a little differently. It's geared around being able to out-athlete the defense. That works against App St, but not Georgia. We don't have Watson or Lawrence back there. I'm not so sure Wesco and Moore aren't as good as receivers they had in the past, but Offensive schemes and QB decisions/ability make a huge difference.

For any meaningful post season play it’s absolutely over, and this isn’t one game this has been four years of decline. When you’re the constant butt of every joke and fail to prove them wrong people are going to question things. We’ve had a number of decommits will probably have more and no telling how many we lose to the portal. I usually try to find the positives but struggling to after what I saw Saturday night

wake up man, it is over except for a pop tart bowl invitation. I say it again, we have played 2 teams with a pulse this year and gotten routed in both. look at our record over the last 2-3 years against teams with winning records??? It is not a knee jerk reaction, it has become the norm.

It's one thing to lose a game at home as a double digit favorite, but it's another matter entirely to get completely out-classes in literally every phase of the game by a three-loss team.

I'll say that I do not envy VT right now. There's going to be some pissed off Tigers rolling into Blacksburg.
If we take care of business from now through the end of the season CONVINCINGLY, an at-large bid is very much in reach.

An at large bid is absolutely NOT in reach. You're wrong. There's no scenario where a 2 loss ACC team gets in as an at-large bid, unless there are no 3 loss Big Ten or SEC teams other than the champion.
Second, Clemson was down, at home, 27-7 to a Louisville team that's on par with this Virginia Tech team. Clemson only scored when they started putting backups in in garbage time. Yet you somehow want to pretend we're going to decimate Virginia Tech at Virginia Tech? I actually do think we beat them, but pretending you pity a team that by all rights should be the favorite against us is just stupid.

If SC and Clemson both play that game like they did Saturday night, we're going to get skull dragged in DV.
Sellers is the real deal. If he stays healthy, he's a very big challenge - maybe even more than Rattler was.
That would be a worse humiliation than anything so far this season. I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that.

well prepare yourself because the defense they have is legit! pains me to say it but they will make our offense look pitiful.Sellers and Sanders will run roughshod over this defense. The portal has elevated their talent above ours in just 1 year and it will show. This game will not be close and anyone that expects different did not watch us this year against Georgia or Louisville. The ##### are light years better than Louisville. This game will be similar to some of Steve Spurriers teams that bullied Dabo year after year in Dabos early tenure. Clemsons defense is no longer fast and physical but sadly enough that is exactly what Beamer has in Columbia.

I agree with just about all of that...

I'll preface this with I didn't get to see the second half Saturday, but in general...
I'm not ready to throw in the towel on Wes yet, for a few reasons. Last year he had his best secondary, and it showed in his schemes. He's had personnel issues two of his three years, some of which are not in his control. I personally like a more aggressive style of defense, but again, that goes back to issues in the secondary. That's all a long way of saying, it's really hard to know if we've actually seen what he wants to run. We have also had pretty poor offensive performances in his first two seasons, which also contribute to defensive performance.
As with any coaching decision, I trust Dabo to make the call. Dabo is a competitor, has been his entire life, and ultimately it's his reputation that's on the line. He knows that.
I've also heard there was trash thrown on the field after the game? If this is correct, we are better than that as Clemson fans.

Lol “this team is light years better than any team we fielded 2021-2023.” If that’s our standard now, that’s sad and pathetic. “we are still the better team than Louisville and given the chance again, it wouldn’t be close.” Please. That sounds cootish. We got our ##### kicked on both sides of the ball. And on special teams. This is a trend that’s been going downward for the past four years. And if played again, Louisville would kick our ### again because this team and all the coaches are soft and complacent.
