I think A LOT of people are making a BIG MISTAKE...

I think everyone is forgetting about a certain someone for the Tigers.
SAMMY WATKINS
I think after the year he just had, 2013 is going to hold big time things. I know that he hasn't been completely forgotten, but after the way things went this year, Watkins has got to be going in to the offseason with something to prove. With Hopkins jumping to the pros, Watkins has the chance to see the ball 20 times a game IMO. We also lose Ellington, so not all of those touches will be through the air. I look for Watkins to be used a lot like Percy Harvin was used at Florida and now with the Vikings.
Anyone else get the same feeling?

On the very first play of the game, yes....during the course

of the game, after you have started to get the opposing defense off guard, I think he could have the opportunity to house one or two up the middle.
I just think we got away from the quick hitter out in the flats in the S. Carolina game. Seems as if we worked that throw to the side with him all year long until that game. I don't remember running that play once with him against them. Its also the perfect play to start the game with...then, as teams start to watch film on it, you fake it and hit the deep pass to Bryant.

There was a reason for not throwing the flats in ##### game, their DB's press on line and are very physical. Sammy is a great physical specimen, but truthfully he's not a very physical player, unlike Nuk or Humphries. He is a little shy about taking jarring hits across the middle or being jammed hard at the line (watch SC or FSU games past two years). Of course you're right about stretching the defense downfield, that's where he is really valuable.

If they want him to play runningback then train him at runningback, In my opinion, He's not going to do any better running the ball up the middle than Ellington or McDowell will

He spent last season living in Nuk's shadow. Not anymore. He will no doubt be the same surprise he was as a freshman.

sometimes during games that we just don't throw the ball downfield enough. Sammy has tremendous speed. Give him a chance to use it.

I love the quick hitter out to the sidelines with him. Basically works like a running play. Most of the time he gets a few yards, but every once in a while you can bust one.
I think Nuk is the main reason we didn't see many down deep down the field throws to him. We basically had Sammy take the short/intermediate routes to suck up the defense and give Hopkins man coverage or throw the safety off just enough to move the safety over. As good as Hopkins was this year, when Watkins was on the field he took up a majority of the defense attention...just on what he showed as a freshman.
This year will show just how good he can be

hit, too, but they really seemed to treat that as the only play for Sammy. It just doesn't seem like he has really gotten to show true receiving skills. Nuk definitley was that guy this year. Maybe this year will be Sammy's time to shine in more a more traditional WR role.

Is this a joke? What real Clemson fan could forget about Watkins? Serioulsy? If you have your not a real fan. Its like saying your a Lakers fan and saying dont forget about Kobe Bryant. Or being a Denver Broncos fan and saying that Peyton Manning is going to be a surprise this year. Or if your a Yankees fan wayyyyyy back in the day and saying that Babe Ruth might show out this season
We really doing this?

Wasn't really including Clemson fans in that statement. Didn't really make it that clear because I took it as a given. No way we've forgotten about #2

Gotcha. The national media has forgotten about Sammy. Fine with us CU fans. We know what he can do. In fact he had a great season last year IN A DOWN YEAR. That is where we are as a program though. Freaking awesome. We seem to be recruiting AND developing talent. Pretty cool to see.

Sammy Watkins is an awesome asset for the Tigers, and he will be making several statements next year about his future. He is the real deal, and I expect he will leave quite a nice legacy at Clemson for others to try to live up to.

Dabo is usually pretty blunt when he talks about Sammy's importance to the team's success. I look for Sammy to line up more in the Wildcat/shotgun set in 2013. Everybody knows that Watkins took a couple of hits this past year with those nagging injuries and the chronic illness sapping his effectiveness. Also, the suspension had him roped for the first two games. However, I am confident that our fine medical staff and athletic trainers will help Sammy to weed out his health problems, and get him ready to run down that hill and get back on the grass in Death Valley. The Tiger faithful should also have him primed to rock and roll the whole joint on those beautiful fall Saturdays with his favorite crossfade routes and his wake and bake moves. I'm also certain that Dabo and the other coaches will see to it that he tokes the line in the spring.

Agreed. I expect our offense to be built around him and TB, and rightfully so, but we have many weapons, and it should be a "pick your poison" type of team for our offense. We have a lot of ways to be effective, and the biggest key will be that the OL will be better, IMO.

Sammy is a great talent. He is not a physical player, very much in the mold of Jacoby Ford in his first 2 or 3 years with the Tigers. He will never, I repeat, never have a better year than his freshman year. For one, he is a known factor after two seasons, and defenses will scheme for him like FSU and SC have already done, making sure to force him out of his comfort zone. Also, the loss of Nuk will allow more ACC teams to concentrate defensively on Watkins and provide sure help and double teams in his area. I suspect he will help the team considerably more by drawing coverage and allowing our other receivers more daylight in offside patterns.

Gee! I didn't know we didn't have any other receivers who will step into that role, nor any incoming FR. or receivers who redshirted who might be capable of helping the team. If you believe Sammy is all we have, I believe you are in for a surprise. Many doubted that Nuk would be the guy this year, but they were very wrong. Maybe you are right, but I think we will be very good at receiver this year.

Throw him the ball as much as we can and run a few jet sweeps, but please no up the middle stuff, I not even sure I want him returning kicks. I would like see him make it through the season injury free!
