Or with these guys being floating independent contractors has that been dropped? Is it a situation like tampering, where are strict requirements on paper but effectively it's of no consequence.

Let's not pretend like a lot of these guys' academic load has ever been the same as most students.

Actually, when I played at Clemson, our academic load was identical to anyone else in the student body. No difference.

Pending on their degree? Parks and recreation spread over 2 semesters and 2 summer sessions for multiple yrs is not the same load as an engineer or bio major doing it in 7-8 semesters.

In fact one of my good friends was a tutor and routinely did the work for some guys who were top NFL draft picks. This was before Dabo.

My guess is it is entirely dependent on how good a player is. I was at Clemson during the Dabo years, took a lot of classes with football players, and I can assure you that their academic load was NOT the same as everyone else. I was in Spanish 101 with our QB. I saw him on the first day of class and last day. That was it. I also was in the Honors college and a number of my friends were paid to do their work for them. If you're a benchwarmer, maybe it's the same. Or maybe you just don't realize what workload non-athletes have.

NIL guidelines allow athletes to have someone in their image or likeness attend class for them.

Just remember that probably 98% of college athletes will never turn pro or make enough money in the NIL to live live. Going to college and flipping burgers at Burger King would not be fun so unless the athletes are in the 2%, of course they want to graduate.

The problem is that 25% think they are in the 2%...

They were already pretty lite - I'll bet they are basically non-existent now.

You used to occasionally hear about academic issues - but never anymore.

Enroll in class.
Other than that, every other academic requirement is purely lip service. When was the last time you heard of a player being denied enrollment (transfer or HS) due to academic standards? When was the last time you heard of a player (especially a starter) being declared academically ineligible.
Here is how the "academic standards work." Basketball team has 15 players on their team. All are juniors. 14 of the juniors leave school to go to another school. They are 60+ hours away from getting a degree. The next year the school has one senior on the team, they guy who remained. He graduates. Gu7ess what the graduation rate for the school is. Yep, 100%. What a great job, they graduated everybody.
