... the more I am thinking they might just hire Jeff Traylor, UTSA.
1. It would be they typical (antithesis of the coach we just fired).
2. They could get him cheaper than Elko.
3. He apparently is loved throughout the state, especially with HS coaches.
4. He is a "real" Texan, unlike Jimbo who was never really comfortable in the "Texas culture."
5. He apparently enjoys hobnobbing with boosters, alumni and HS coaches.
6. he apparently is a guy who doesn't have a much higher opinion of himself than others have of him.
With all that said, if you forced me to pick one name right now, it would still be Elko. But, the gap has narrowed.

Ditto - that donor base doesn't give a durn about a non-Power 5 coach - they're looking for name recognition.

Name recognition just cost them 75 million and several less then stellar seasons so how do you know they want name recognition all over again. I would bet money that they are looking for someone that fits and that wins and not much more than that.

Good thoughts. The proverbial box that atm is in, however, relates to how their fanbase will react. If the new HC has limited national "wow factor", will the carping start right away? Or does the fanbase keep their cool and let whoever it is have a couple of years to build something. This is going to be interesting.

They should just post it on Tigernet. Just this year I have read the advice of at least 100 T Netters that could out coach two time National Camp Dabo Swinney. I'm sure they could get someone on the cheap.

I know the family, don’t think that he’s ready to move again so soon. They have moved 17 times and his wife wants the two youngest children to finish HS at their current school.

Sorry Bret, but I think they going after your guy Norvell. He is not going to go against the boosters and their actions. He turned around FSU which was a train wreck. Name recognition and loves the portal and recruiting whoever.
