And they want to know why there is a fall off in our 3-deep options

What planet do you bozo’s live on?

With the portal and NIL, how can you expect Clemson to stockpile 3-4 studs at running back?

Kobe Pace for instance, should have been a senior for Clemson this year. We could have really used him. He chose to start instead of ride the pine behind Shipley and Mafah.

Same with Dukes transferring to USF. Both those guys had 5+ yards per carry this year for UVA and USF. We developed them now all that work is for the benefit of others.

Jay Haynes is a dang good back, but he got hurt - it happens

Adams is a 4th stringer that would make a great fullback if we ever did anything crazy like get under center on a normal down and distance.

Eziomume is a true freshman - guess we will see how much progress he and spiller have made against Texas

I just don’t think it’s fair to criticize spiller in this instance. Criticize him for running Mafah too much early in the year, or criticize Dabo for leaving him in too long vs NCST, sure. But dont whine about not having 3 deep depth at running back.

Where was Haynes

against SCAR? and where was Eziomume in the ACC champ game? EZ was allegedly the 5th best RB in his class according to Rivals.

It’s a personnel problem and they just need to give these kids a shot to see if they are gamers

Let be bring up the elephant in the room though

Mafah was going to transfer before Dabo got Matt Luke inked and Shipley declared for the draft.

Dabo promised him that he’d be the feature back. It’s mafah’s last year and his last chance to make his case. Mafah changed his mind and Dabo is sometimes loyal to a fault

I think we rode him too much early in the year and padded his stats. The last 4-5 games it’s been painful to watch. He can’t lower his shoulder, his balance is way off, and he can’t cut.

He’s in there because he’s holding on the the ball and he knows the pass protection schemes, but any one that’s watching knows he’s not threat to take one to the house like he was in the first half.

All that being said, I think if we want to really try and win the game (rather than keep it close), we have got take a risk and let Eziomume show what he can (or can’t do).

All that said - if 2 weeks in a hyperbaric chamber heals Mafah, that would be awesome, because he’s a #### of a back when he’s healthy

Ive never thought Mafah was a feature back, or an NFL prospect

Perhaps I'm a fool, hope the kid proves me wrong has a stellar NFL career. I personally would have never made any promises to him as a feature back. He is a good 2nd half, bruising back once the defense is tired. He is not a back I want to build my offense around. Just my opinion, coaches know way more than I ever will. Its just frustrating that the running game and special teams issues are holding this team back. Those seem fixable, but haven't been.

He's a really good back when he's healthy - he hasn't been healthy for 2 months.

So then you know it's a coaching issue and you're still defending the poor

It’s not CJ that got us into this RB depth trouble…its clearly dabo for not using the portal.

Kinda is CJ’s fault, missed out on our top rb prospects in 21 & 22. Maybe Dabo’s fault for hiring CJ as RB coach.

My gripe with a lot of the coaches is situational awareness. Taking your best players out of play, leaving others in when they're hurting the team, situational playcalling, that sort of stuff. They have to be towards the bottom in those categories this year. We can speculate if it's loyalty, stupidity, or both but regardless, they have to be better than this.

Yup, and bad play calls like the slow developing toss sweep on the goal line for a loss of 3.

That was just an unbelievably stupid decision***

it's right for him as their position coach to physically injure his pupils, you embecile-(worst case scenario a true freshmen: they've only had 13 games + spring practice + in season practices to be familiar with play design, keys and reads...a true freshman at this point is a sophomore with an entire season under his belt and no time lost in the training room injured

For future reference, if you are going to call someone an imbecile, that is one of those words that you want to be sure to spell correctly…

Word to the not so wise … LOL

I don't think anyone is upset with CJ because our top two RBs are hurt...

It likely has more to do with the fact that he hasn't recruited particularly well or developed the talent we do have.

THIS! Mafah can barely pass block after 4+ years in CJs world so why

Would anyone think he can develop players? He and Grisham cannot develop talent or improve project players.

He doesn't get an out now that Haynes is lost for the season, we were 13 games

in before he got his bite at the apple...Why didn't we have a viable option for an obviously compromised Phil for the last 6 weeks of the season? He was still playing 90% of the snaps when everybody KNEW he had a serious injury to his shoulder and the excuse we kept getting is we needed his blocking...Let that sink in

ineffective Mafah was still apparently so far ahead of our other backs that they still couldn't get snaps.

It's not like people are upset because Etienne and Lyn-J are injured and we're having to rely on Chez Mellusi or Mikey Dukes. This is like our only viable RB is injured yet he's still playing because he's literally the only RB on our roster that should be getting snaps at Clemson right now. And that's not my opinion, its clearly the opinion of the Clemson coaches or they wouldn't have an injured Mafah getting 95% of the snaps at RB.

It also took multiple games for them to start trevor lawrence and DW4 their freshman years when it should have been obvious immediatly. Same with Sammmy this year. It's a reoccurring problem in our program.

Players get hurt, that's fine. But whoever made decision to keep forcing Marah for almost all the snaps against scar deserves criticism. He was not playing well, at all. If our backups couldn't do better then there is a problem. I think it is more stubbornness on coaches than the backups abilities though.
