The SMU offer is meant to help Clemson fight off any in state institutions and those located in States closer to Texas. It would reflect poorly on Clemson if the ex Clemson OC, now head SMU coach did not offer this young man.

Head Coach of another university? I don't think so. Obviously,
he has to recruit against us and everyone else. I'm just saying that
the SMU program is no match for ours.

Good luck with that. SMU is the end of the earth for any talented
player. Clemson is the far superior program, and any intelligent player
will realize that. I think we are better off without Chad.

The day we have to worry about SMU plucking away our commits - at least since the NCAA put the Death Penalty on the 'Stangs for their oil-mogul bagmen buying all those Pony Express fellas back in the '80's - is the day we need to roll up the turf at Death Valley; it's over.
But credit The Chad with chutzpah, anyhow. Or maybe he's busy making friends with old oilmen alums, who knows?
Going to be an adjustment period for The Chad, if he's wasting his time throwing down offers for kids he has no chance at. If anybody gets Chaulk away from us, it'll be somebody way, way closer to home - the Longhorns, A&M, TCU, even LSU or Oklahoma.
SMU is a rough, rough gig right now. I personally think it'll take 10 years of push to get them back into even middlin' relevance again.

Ensured TDP that Dabo had the DNA, courage, charisma, integrity, shrewdness, sincerity, work-ethic, heart, inability to be denied-ness (history of overcoming seemingly impossible odds) - to become a major success in the coaching ranks.
So, yeah... good luck with that one, Chad. Understandable offer, though, seeing as he does reside in Texas.

Wasnt SMU actually in a Bowl like two years ago? The Gilbert Kid that transferred from TX and a Nast DE they had there I know I saw them in a couple of lower tier Bowls. It seems as if everyone is saying that its a graveyard but June Jones had a couple of pretty decent years there. That said, The Chad clearly has an eye for talent, he is in a super fertile recruiting grounds, and I see him being able to work his system on the two stars he will get right now, sneak up on someone for a local kid that wants PT, and in that conference possibly be able to make a run in a year, maybe two. IF he has a DC that can put it together on that side of the ball at least. Not saying hes gonna snag this kid, but I believe he WILL pull the rug out from a few schools before its over. I see the Chad doing well there, and possibly moving into one of the Bigger Texas Schools eventually.
