I love our culture and the vision that Dabo created here at Clemson...

But in your honest opinion, over the next 5 to 10 years will culture be enough to go against the big $$$ of the NLI that big market schools can offer? Will culture be a factor with big time athletes in the future? Me personally, I'm undecided at this point.

Time will tell. I think there will be changes to this and to the transfer portal, either that or the NCAA will go away and a new (not necessarily better) program will come.

In the meantime, Clemson will have to find a way to adapt. Bet that Dabo is already on it.

I am on the fence as well. I think college football as we have known/loved is over. It’s now a “free agency” if you will for kids coming out of high school. Whoever has the deepest pockets in theory should become the dominant program(s). However, not all personalities mesh, coaches and players. It could turn into “me” not team mentally which would help keep talent from coming together as a team.

This would benefit Clemson as dabo has shown he can win without a number 1 recruiting class.

Think we’re in a good spot at the moment, although our season has gone as plan we are in the top tier of the college football landscape and have good brand recognition and hopefully that translates to staying power.

Mighty topical post.

IMHO, especially in this season, most of us know character counts. And we understand that while Dabo has a strong ego that can shed an unusual reflection at times, he has an even stronger character that strives to do the right thing for the players, the coaches, the university, and the fans -- and probably in that order as he gains tenure and influence.

As long as Dabo follows his high level of character in leading and supporting his players, sponsors and boosters, Clemson Football will be in a far better place than most college programs regardless of NIL positioning that will be as disruptive as beneficial for most universities.

You can have both. No reason our culture should be destroyed. If so, then it's a weak culture. What we need is to be progressive thinking in providing the best solution for the student. Come up with the best portal and NIL policy that is cutting edge and better than anyone is doing it... Instead of a blatant rejection. Which sadly, right or wrong, Dabo gets the bad wrap on it by what he's said.

It sounds like you and others are already creating an excuse for Dabo

Dec 26, 2021, 4:15 PM

if we don’t return to dominance.

It won’t be because of anything Dabo did or didn’t do, but because we are victims of NIL.

Is that correct?

So it's the coaches fault when the team fails to meet goals and not external factors? Is that what you're saying?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, it wont be enough. It's already

Dec 26, 2021, 5:16 PM

Not enough. We are having to sign fall backs.

Was recruiting top talent ever something but a select few could do throughout the roster anyway? You can only have 85. Players won't sit your bench anymore. They'll just move around. We'll figure out how to play the game and be okay. Talent evaluation will be super important and culture may be what sets us apart. NIL will come into play trying to get that great quarterback though. That could be a challenge for us.
