at the end of this season. He is having a good year which is unusual for SC and he has 34 seniors on his team. Next year looks bleak for SC even with his major use of the portal. He knows you can not win consistently at SC but could build a more consistent winner at VT. His Dad would love for him to improve on the Beamer legacy. Just my opinion as I have no inside info. However I was wrong back in 1989 when I thought Clemson would never fire our beloved Danny Ford.

Yes, Coach Fry did not have a good look on his face before or after the game. My thoughts are Frank- his Dad is politicking heavily to have another Beamer at VT. The timing is perfect as VT continues to struggle while the gamecocks stock is rising. However, with losing 34 seniors along with some of their best being bought off who would want to stick around. Shane built this team for moving on after this year. Beamer is a Dabo type that can be successful in the right situation.

I was gonna say...I'm hearing from a lot of Hokie faithful a lot of vitriol for Frye. I don't remember his name standing out on any pre-season 'hot seats', but I get the feeling the base is headed that way now and it will be for next year.

You can never win at SC on a consistent basis-impossible. You can build a consistent winner with the VT program. Ask Steve Spurrier if you don’t believe me.

VAtech has a history of Championships, Beamer grew up watching them in their heyday. They even played for a BCS Naty one year. That can never happen at SC and he knows it. He is in the graveyard of coaches at Cola and he knows that, too. He would be one of the very few who got out on top rather than being run out of town by the press, media, the board and insane fan base. Horrible place to coach, Columbia. Compare that to the virtual heaven on earth around Blacksburg and a kind media and fan base. No decision, really.

He ain't going nowhere. He loves it in Columbia. He's building the program and culture just like Dabo did. Great values. Don't think Dabo's a God like you people think and that he's unique. He isn't.
Yes, he can and will win at south carolina. He's recruited well and recruiting well this year. Probably end up above us in recruiting. But he can develop talent too. Spurrier loved Spurrier. Shane isn't Spurrier.
He's one of the few good ones. Wish him all the best. Why would any decent coach leave for an acc school?

There are some decent schools with decent programs in the ACC, along with coaches that make more money than most coaches in any conference.

Clemgal.........I see what you are saying, but it cannot be done there. I have been watching the shenanigans down there since the late 1950's and the culture is so odd and weird, with meddling politicians, media and rotten fans, they are only able to achieve in small spurts from time to time. Any achievement for a few years is body slammed back to reality by the culture. Call it the Chicken Curse, call it a losing attitude, whatever you call it, it is real and I watched it play out and destroy many a good man down there over the last 50+ years. Well said and I agree. Some Clemson fans are too biased to step back and examine what’s really happening at SCAR. Beamer is still growing as a HC (and needs to IMO), but he’s recruiting well, working the portal well (save for one year when they lacked NIL funds), and NIL is continuing to improve there, too. They’re going to be more relevant in a world where 12 teams get into a playoff.
We need to worry about our school, not theirs. We have plenty of issues without concerning ourselves with what Beamer & Co are doing.

SC is and has always been a coaching graveyard. It’s just a fact. You have Steve Spurrier and Lou Holtz and you win the SEC East 1 time. I’m not sure what you have against Dabo and I’m not saying Beamer is a bad guy by any stretch, but they are not winning anything in football.

There's way too much ESPN/SEC money in Columbia to leave the gig. In comparison, VA TECH and the ACC are broke. With TV revenue soon to be available for NIL payments, SCU will have double the TV money of CLEMSON and VA TECH. So why leave for a lesser and broker program?

Would probably have more sustained success at VT. However, it's be dumb to leave given the current landscape of college football and ACC uncertainty.
I have been very impressed with the team he has this year but they do still have three losses. And a very good chance they end up with four or five.
He has done a great job with the portal and recruiting but it will be interested in to see what it looks like in the next few years. His on the field product is not consistent. If he doesn't make the playoffs by 2026, they'll run him out of there.

freely admit I have very close friends who are Carolina alumni and fans.
In fact there are nearly 40,000 Clemson alumni here, and you'd have to be a recluse not to have Gamecock friends, neighbors, coworkers, etc., contrary to what you read on TigerNet.
What I hear are words of excitement, although cautious, for their program. Additionally, their BOT has just approved major renovations to Willy B. and the surrounding area, which I believe to be efforts to eliminate the old warehouse look, which they have been addressing for some time.
Hence, my thinking is Beamer would be better advised to stay put, tackle their deficiencies head on, as Dabo did for us, because he'll have an open checkbook to do so. I keep thinking back to the Lou Holtz' years and their 11-0, 1-ll seasons, and Carolina fans still packed Willy B. for games, even tearing down the goalposts when they finally beat New Mexico State for the first win in two years. They have been loyal to the program.
There is, however, that one, old bugaboo they'll have to confront: the nefarious, ever-lurking Chicken Curse, which my Carolina friends and I joke about. If Beamer can keep that monster buried, he might be on to something. lol.

Not sure Shane would want to set himself up for that. Ferentz never got a good shot at it when Frank retired. Why? Because Frank was still there. On campus. Ferentz couldn't do anything without someone in the AD saying, "Let's see what Franks says first". I don't know if that would still be the case, but there sure would be a lot of "Thank ain't the way Frank done it" anytime things so south.
Good or bad, Shane needs to make his legacy somewhere else.

If he wanted to go there, he could have prior to going to usc. I’ve heard Tiger fans say “I hope he stays there forever”. That was the same thing usc fans were saying while we were getting 5 bombed. I’m not sure how he could motivate anyone but he’s done a lot better this year than I expected.

I would love for Shane to come back to Blacksburg. However, I am also a realist. The facilities and $ at an $EC school far surpass what VT could pay him or provide. The pressure would be infinitely less at Tech though and I think he would improve upon recruiting instantaneously. Our current guy, is someone you would love to hang out with and go fishing.
Our problem is we hired a coach with NO head coaching experience and our DC and OC had never held those positions before.
Also, we had a great time with the Clemson fans this weekend at the game.

Which I will admit they do have a much tougher schedule than ours. I don’t say that every year just because they are in the SEC, but this years schedule for us is beyond pathetic.

A move to VT makes sense in the landscape of college football 5 yrs ago, but now it’s P2 and everyone else. Beamer might end up leaving while the getting is good, but it might be some place like Maryland as his next opportunity to build a program.

First of all Prye has to get fired this year. Not happening! He’s in his 3rd year I believe and VT doesn’t have the bank to buy out his contract. Prye was the only coach they could afford to hire. So Shane will have to kill it in the portal next year w/ all the seniors leaving this year. Next season the chickens will back on the bottom.

to take a head coaching job at another school!
There are only 2 Coot HC's that were ever head coached at another school. Sparky Woods, later at VMI and Shawn Elliotts (UofSC Interim HC when Spurrier bolted), at Ga St, now back as TE coach at UofSC. Marvin Bass did coach in the CFL.

I don't see how you could leave the huge SEC money advantage. Until that changes I don't see many SEC coaches leaving for ACC/Big 12/Pac jobs.

It could be if VT inserted the monies needed. SC is where coaches go to die. Besides money there is no upside to being in Columbia. Screw the conference affiliation. Older Beamer had VT in better shape than at any time in SC football history and that includes their time in the SEC. Next you will be telling us the Vandy job is great.

Maybe not, but he grew up there and it has to be a part of his heart and it's definitely a place where he can win and get paid more than enough.
Plus, he wouldn't have to listen to that silly rooster crowing over and over again.

What I find silly about this entire thread is the supposed Clemson fans that supposedly know what Beamer wants or feels. Unless you are his wife, you probably aren't going to know whether he likes Columbia better than Blacksburg.
I've been to both and that part of Virginia is incredible, while I didn't care for Columbia at all. Look at the national rankings right now and you'll see that 4 out of the top 5 schools are actually Big 10 and a Big 10 team won the national title last season. It's possible to win at VT and would be easier than at SC, actually.

Yep, a lateral move with massively bigger upside. He will die at SC before ever getting them anywhere close to being a contender. He has to know that is not going to happen by now. Every year it will be the one or two game peak into the top 25 and then slumping back to 40+.
