Man, we Americans sure want what we can't have.

Oct 4, 2017, 10:11 PM

Just on a whim looked up used values on Chevy Avalanches.....holy crap. They haven't been made since 2013, and their values used to hold pretty steady with Silverados. Not anymore. A nice 13 Avalanche with 50k miles is worth the same as a 15 Silverado LTZ with 40k miles.

The law of supply and demand strikes again.

Who are you and what have you done with Obed?

Oct 4, 2017, 10:15 PM

A Chevy Avalanche?

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

don't want one, was just curious where they were

Oct 4, 2017, 10:17 PM

figured they would have tanked or stayed artificially high, and sure enough, it was the latter.

I long for the days when mostly people who used trucks

Oct 4, 2017, 10:19 PM

to get work done drove trucks. I also long for a valid reason to justify getting a truck with my next car purchase.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I remember in 1983 my Dad bought a new full sized GMC

Oct 4, 2017, 10:23 PM

Jimmy. Loved that truck (it was my first car too, later on).

Main thing I remember though, was that when we got dumped on with about 14" of snow in Greenville in 1985, it was special, because almost no one had 4wd. We'd go out driving, and besides the occasional Jeep, see nobody. Just 5 years later that had changed, with everyone and their brother owning either Jeep Cherokees or Ford Explorers, you couldn't keep snow on a road for 24 hours.

It would also be nice if there were more

Oct 4, 2017, 10:28 PM

SUV's that could actaully do something. I'd even take a Trailblazer over these uninspired crossover deals.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've been thinking hard about finding a nice 98-99

Oct 4, 2017, 10:29 PM

2 door Tahoe/Yukon to daily drive. I love those and there's nothing like them anymore. Would make a nice first car for junior in a year or so when he starts driving.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I know those have got to be affordable cause

Oct 4, 2017, 10:35 PM

My dad has one of each. Maybe early 2000s but not much newer.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

99 was the last year of the full size two door.

Oct 4, 2017, 10:36 PM

They're badazz, IMHO, and poised to see a lot of appreciation sooner than later. They're already going up a little. You could find them all day long for $7500 or less a couple years ago. Can't find a nice one now for less than 12-15k.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think his Yukon is 2 door and the Tahoe is 4.

Oct 4, 2017, 10:40 PM

I do like that his Yukon is still pretty much a truck with permanent camper shell.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have heavy, heavy doubts that it will be cool, but I sure

Oct 4, 2017, 10:42 PM

wish the upcoming Bronco was really something awesome. If it were really a full sized truck in the vein of those old Broncos and K-Blazers, it would be a "shutup and take my money" moment for me.

Oct 4, 2017, 10:44 PM [ in reply to I've been thinking hard about finding a nice 98-99 ]

Or a Rubicon if he's the type to use it and you don't want to fool with the front axle swap.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

put some cardboard down and let it ride

Oct 4, 2017, 10:51 PM

A lot easier to flat fender or replace after it's inevitably involved in some sort of front end collision....whether it be mailboxes or the side of a ravine.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

For real though man, my brief stint as a TJ owner was

Oct 4, 2017, 10:53 PM

eye opening. That thing leaked like a sieve from every possible place from the rear diff to the radiator. Made me realize what kind of manufacturing one can expect from Toledo. I've had old British cars that were drier under the hood than that thing. It was cool, but I wouldn't do it again.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've had two and they were tanks

Oct 4, 2017, 10:56 PM

Well, one was technically an LJ. You could see the spot welds through the paint and I wouldn't trust the roll cage to sit on...but they were reliable if nothing else. Aside from the rebuilt auto tranny's every 50k miles, but admittedly I drive like a lunatic and was pulling 500 lbs. over the tow rating on a weekly basis.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If FCA would build a Jeep truck with a diesel

Oct 5, 2017, 10:00 AM

I might be at the lot the day it comes off the truck.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It'd probably be like $65k

Oct 5, 2017, 10:24 AM

I was kicking tires on some 2500's a few weeks ago and looked at a 4 door Rubicon....$46k lulz. For that kind of money it better at least have a Hemi.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Still liking your 2500?

Oct 5, 2017, 10:39 AM

How's it ride? We're wanting to start hauling the boat to some different lakes next year, Lanier, Cumberland, etc. and since I'm racking up the mileage on mine I've considered bumping up to one. Seems like a good excuse since I got about 5 mpg with my Hemi towing it to Jocassee, and that's about what the Yukon gets not towing anything.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Its a love / hate thing

Oct 5, 2017, 10:46 AM

And admittedly, I no longer need a 2500 to tow my boat now. I have toyed with selling it but I don't because 1) it's paid for, and 2) rednecks REALLY like it, and because of that, I feel pretty badass driving it. I don't drive it much though. I looked at a new Tundra a couple months ago and was going to trade even for a new Platinum. I knew the Tundra won't be worth near that much next year, but my 2500 probably will...so I didn't do it. And the Tundra won't get the same gas mileage my diesel does.

If I lower the air pressure in the tires to around 50 PSI, the ride is tolerable. If I put the tires at what they are supposed to be (like 65 in the front, 75 rear) it rides like a wood wheeled wagon. And that's when I hate it.

Re: Still liking your 2500?

Oct 5, 2017, 10:49 AM [ in reply to Still liking your 2500? ]

How much does your hurricane weigh? I think mine around 3400# full of gear/gas and I still get about 12-13 mpg hauling it with frequent stops at lights.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Still liking your 2500?

Oct 5, 2017, 11:00 AM

Around 4700 pounds dry, so probably a little over 5k with full gas tank, water tank, etc. I'd say the trailer is an additional 1k, so full set up just over 6k. My truck pulls it fine, but it did NOT like the hills going up to Jocassee.

Yep. Anyone who buys a truck with a bed shorter than 6' should probably be buying an SUV instead.

this includes ALL crew cabs.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I long for the days when mostly people who used trucks

Oct 5, 2017, 9:57 AM

Unless you're super manly and opt for the crew cab with an 8' bed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

my 2500 is hard enough to park with the 6.6. bed.

Oct 5, 2017, 10:01 AM

I can't imagine regularly parking one with an 8' bed.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: my 2500 is hard enough to park with the 6.6. bed.

Oct 5, 2017, 10:04 AM

It's hard enough to park mine that has a 145" wheelbase because the parking lots around here are so dang small. I had a couple of s10s that I could whip around anywhere tho

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, stupid laws, economics, and roles in society

Oct 5, 2017, 10:13 AM [ in reply to Re: I long for the days when mostly people who used trucks ]

changing. I don't want a 4 door truck. I can see an extended cab being useful. I just don't want a truck that is a people mover unless they are riding in the bed like the good ole days.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think mine it like 5' 6"

Long bed trucks are ugly as shid.

Oct 4, 2017, 10:46 PM

I really, really wanted a diesel Excursion before we bought the Yukon, but they ain't cheap anymore either. Old Broncos will end up being the same IMO.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm wondering what hole all the H2s and H3s went in

Oct 4, 2017, 10:53 PM

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oct 4, 2017, 10:59 PM

Coincidentally, my buddy had just traded his Avalanche for it a few months before. I believe that was the second Hummer he totaled, and he was coming off rolling an Infinit G35 coupe 5 times.
