Two things
1
Jan 2, 2024, 12:35 PM
|
|
1. The US and NATO should continue to support Ukraine and focus on defensive weapons and tactics. 2. Zelenskyy should accept reality that Ukraine is NOT going to force Russia to withdraw from Crimea or the Ukrainian territory they occupy. A further reality is that he should start dialogue to negotiate a ceasefire before all of Ukraine is turned into rubble with significant civilian casualties. His bravado and ego need to yield to a more pragmatic approach to Russia’s invasion. Saving 80% of his country is #### good and it is NOT worth risking a 100% defeat. Long term after Putin is gone, maybe there’s some negotiated settlement with new Russian leadership.

We Need Some Clarity

We are spending a tremendous amount of money supporting Ukraine and I support doing this, although NATO should be doing more.
Prior to Russia invading Ukraine, Biden suggested that a "minor incursion" by Russia into Ukraine might only lead to minor consequences. Putin certainly launched far more than a minor incursion, but this type of language was not helpful in deterring Russia.
We are now almost 2 years into this war and we have yet to be explained what OUR endgame is. Is it total removal from Ukraine including Crimea? Is it everything except Crimea? Is it part of the eastern territories?
We seem to be giving Ukraine enough to keep from being overrun but not enough to push Russia out. Putin will not lose a war of attrition.
We need some clarity from the White House expressing Our endgame.
As to Taiwan, again what is our policy? For years we have expressed a policy of strategic ambiguity. Biden however has stated on the record very clearly that we would respond militarily if China invades Taiwan. His aides then tried to walk back a very unambiguous statement.
If we're going to go to war with China over this or show a credible deterrence, then Biden should be building up our Navy and military forces in a very aggressive manner.
Iran proxies keep attacking our forces in Syria and Iraq and we respond with a few pinprick counterattacks.
We already are a paper tiger in the eyes of much of the world and that is a very dangerous place to be.

We've done absolutely nothing to foster any cease fire between the two countries. I'm not even sure its ever been mentioned.
When Trump wins, he'll fix it all, I'm sure.

Ukraine is a steal and only 5% of our military budget, we lose no troops, and all the money that is spent, 90% goes to US companies. It's a no-brainer to do it.

The last week Russia has primarily targeted civilian areas. There's no strategic reason to do this except to weaken Ukraine's morale. Not exactly Hallmarks of a well executed military campaign.
