Not really what I wanted to read. Oh well, at least we made up ground. Come on Tee, come play for a Championship.

5-star receiver Tee Higgins

You almost get the sense, the staff has really "ZONED IN" on Higgins at receiver. But I think there's some other good ones out there as well; Namely Nico Collins who maybe even better in some ways. Anyways, just a thought. #21

From said team's board who created 7 pages worth of responses.
He knows he can walk on to the Bball team. A football scholorship at Clemson is more noteworthy (esp. as a WR) than a Bball 'ship, and you can't have both.

Honestly, there would be too much pressure on him in Tennessee if he said we were #1 on his board right now.
I like where we are and he certainly implied we have closed the gap considerably. I would never underestimate Dabo's ability to close.

This young man has expressed wanting to play college basketball for months now and how important it was... How did we drop the ball on that one? I don't get it. Brownell, Mikiecki, Bender, Smith, etc. should have made time for him. Pretty upset to read that. :/

It's pretty much impossible to play both basketball and football at this level. Way too much time has to be dedicated to football in the offseason, where basketball responsibilities would interfere. There's a reason why kids at this level choose one sport. I can't even name one player in recent years who was a star on the court and on the field. Just the way it is these days.

... and telling him that playing hoops and football at the highest level in college is difficult, if not impossible to do these days. Maybe we're not just telling him h=what he wants to hear just to get his verbal.
Nuk Hopkins was an all-state basketball player, but he wasted his time trying to play at Clemson as a freshman and probably slowed his development into an NFL caliber wide receiver.
Telling a kid he can star in both football and basketball in college just to get his commitment is the equivalent of telling a great high school athlete he can play QB when you know from the git-go that his future is at defensive back.
Maybe we're just being honest with Tee Higgins.

Brownell has no interest whatsoever in football players. Higgins has a very promising upside but with what we have in house and on the way, I won't lose sleep over missing out on him. You can't get them all. I think most forget Brownell sought out Nuk Hopkins, not the other way around. Coach Brownell in a press conference made it abundantly clear they weren't there to talk about Nuk Hopkins and basically Nuk hadn't earned it yet like the other players had. IMO he had no intention of ever letting Nuk get significant playing time. Nuk Hopkins could've easily played D1 basketball anywhere. Nuk made the right decision by walking away from the bball team.

So Brownell is supposed to stop whatever he is doing
Jun 17, 2016, 9:47 PM
[ in reply to and where's Brownlee in all this? Higgins says basketball is ] |

and focus on Higgins just because the football team wants him? Do you really think that little of our basketball program, to the point that Brownell is supposed to "recruit" a player to his program and potentially give him a roster spot, just so he can hopefully come to Clemson to play football?!?
Anyone who thinks we should bend over backwards to that extent for a FOOTBALL recruit needs to grow up. If Higgins is a legitimate basketball player who can be a big contributor to our team, I'm sure we will recruit him for basketball too. But if he isn't, then Brownell has no business getting involved because our basketball program shouldn't have to stoop to such embarrassing lows.
Freaking amazing how some of our fans expect basketball to do whatever the football team needs. Unbelievable.

However, I don't trust Butch "angry red-faced" Jones. The one thing any recruit considering Tenneessee needs to know is their Title IX investigation isnt going away, they could be walking into another Baylor type situation. It sounds as if he's destined to go to Tenneessee, unfortunately!

I think he is waiting to see the QB situation at Tenn. I think it is an ego issue that Dabo can recruit equivalent b ball athletes as Brownell. No doubt Nuk's soccer and basketball background helped him become the wideout he is today. They should have all wideouts doing rebounding and DB drills in my opinion bc of Nuk. It's amazing how many catches he makes with the DB in perfect position.

have any idea of what his recruitment is like nor do you know what Coach Brownell has done or said regarding this issse..You are just looking for someway to put a negative spin on this and complain because the BB program isnt what you would like it to be.
At one time Oak Ridge High School was one of the top high schools in America and it probably still is. I suspect that this young man is capable of seeing what is taking place at UT and will do what is best for him

Vol fans are rabid. Players are Gods. The pressure to play there from family and friends is gynormous.
The key with Higgins is to get mom and dad down for a visit. They'll see Clemson is the best and safest place for Tee.
Tons of crime, drugs, hookers, strip clubs...etc in Knoxville. Lots of temptation, that's why so many of their players get into trouble. It's gotten so bad there that the Knoxville Chief of Police said they will no longer make courtesy calls to the coaching staff when a player is arrested. They're fed up with it.

If I recall it was a big reason Sammy chose Clemson. Not a lot of temptations and he could focus on school and athletics. Clemson has a big advantage over programs situated in urban environments for that very reason.
