Gamecock vs Tiger hatred

Is it at an all-time high? With both schools football and baseball being so competitive and seeming to face each other often.
Any old timers out there have an opinion?

Definitely. I dont know if its more hate but it is an angrier hate. Yall had whooped us for so long that we hated losing but we also kind of expected it. So it was hard to get really angry about it because we kind of beaten down. This is the first time in a long time that the tables have turned on a team that thinks they should be winning. I expect that the next time clemson puts together a streak there will be a lot of anger on our side. If it ever gets really competitive to the point that both teams really expect to win each year you will have a lot of hate spewing.

Clemson fans and Vegas odds expected a Clemson win at least three of the last four years (don't remember the line for 2010). I think SC fans expected to win the one or two without regard to what the smart money said, but before that they almost always went in expecting a loss.

Well certainly last year with CU on a serious roll and Scar playing their backup QB and without the all star rb, ....CU certainly expected to win. The other years, SC expected to win IMO. And the games certainly played out that way. None of the games were even competitive.

And I think that contributes a good deal to the anger. Growing up I hated losing to clemson but it brought more depression than anger. Losses just hit harder when you think you should have won.

2009 Clemson and most of the country expected cu to win and last year's game was extremely competitive Clemson led at the half and it was a 3 pt game with 3 minutes left

I think many South Carolina fans hate Clemson because of the many years they have lost to Clemson. (at everything)
Now that South Carolina has won a few consecutive football games and 2 national championships, (in baseball) some Clemson fans don't know how to react. (other than hate the vocal minority of South Carolina fans that don't know how to win with class & dignity)
It would take many years of losing to South Carolina for most Clemson fans to understand their hatred for Clemson IMO, and most Clemson fans are smart enough not to care.

There are idiot fans on both sides that stir the pot. The Gamecock fans that see your Clemson sticker on your car and do their little "four bomb" thing and talk about "Clemsux" and how Clowney owns Tajh. There are also the Clemson fans that resort to things like 63-17 when told that USC has the better program at the moment. Most fans on both sides aren't like this but it's the small number on both sides that give everyone a bad name.

Things are changing slowly but surely. As USC become more and more a women's college (is it 60% now?), there are fewer and fewer hardcore fans who actually went to the "college." Within 20 more years, all the hardcore USC fans will be mostly high school dropouts who just like the color red and resent the Clemson grads who pay them.

Well, Hody Peel, I've been around for 68 years, too, and frankly, you can keep on pitying us.
Hey, you're in line with SOS's philosophy which is: 'Don't hate; just play ball!'

I heard a remark once that the passions of youth devolve
Jun 1, 2013, 8:43 PM
|
|
into the tolerances of maturity, for our life experiences find most of us with family and friends from all walks of life. Thus, while we may harbor secret loathing of a particular school and/or its successes, we don't allow our pique to consume us to the point that we destroy our associations.
When I attended Clemson in the 60's, the South Carolina game was the end-all to the season. All other games, including ACC competition and titles, had little significance. Most S.C. people I knew felt the same. As time progressed and Clemson reeled off win after win, most Gamecock fans I knew made the same remarks: Clemson people go to games EXPECTING to win; Gamecock fans go to games HOPING to win.
Then, some attitudes began changing, most notably upon the arrival of Coach Spurrier. Some Clemson people began placing greater emphasis on ACC competition and titles and BCS appearances; S.C. fans began believing Spurrier had finally broken years of frustrations. Toss in the explosion of the social media, and the mouth-running escalated on both sides.
I think the rise of both programs has been good for the rivalry and certainly good for both schools and the state. We have garnered a larger share of media attention, as well as a keener interest from top-quality recruits. There's been an explosion of Clemson and Carolina paraphenalia, and at the very least, both fan bases are excited about their prospects.
Given that line of thinking, no doubt the rivalry may be more heated than in a long time; trash-talking more prevalent and heated; and professions of hatred greater. Then, the phone rings...and our good friends, who just happen to be fans of our rival, want us to come over for eats and drinks, and...well, off we go!

I was taught not to hate anyone, and I don't, but whatever the next closest passion is I certainly reserve for that place and their fan base. I do not have to worry about any friends because I don't have any of a coot persuasion......acquaintances yes. It always blows my mind when someone will say what his coot friend says. DON'T HAVE ANY! There are times when I feel as if I pull harder for them to lose than us to win......I'm working on that as it isn't healthy. My chidren get it and the grands are getting it....go Tigers!

Well said, Mr. T. I have several close friends and relatives who happen to wear the 'wrong' colors, but at the end of the day, regardless of who wins, we're still friends. Maybe we fans should notice the actual players responses after a hard fought, competitive contest. No matter how close the final score, the participants will talk, hug, or shake hands.

I used to try to be the nice Clemson fan and not pull against them in Non-Clemson games... but then the last 4 years I have seen their fan base... the same people I was so gracious to when we won 10 out of 13 and put 63 points on.... come back at me with such vile, immature smack talk. Making T-shirts for each win and all that.
After a while, I just cant hope for them to win anything. There are a few good ones out there you can have over to watch a game and have a good time with but the majority are just pathetic.

I grew up hating them, and the past few years have been intolerable. I used to think that Georgia was the worst fanbase out there until some recent exposure to the coots. When some redneck cusses you out at the gas pumps simply because of the tag you have on your front bumper it has gone beyond the extreme. BTW, for some reason sport didn't take me up on my offer to remove the rest of his teeth right there in the parking lot for some reason.
We need to turn the tide. We need to turn it soon or else all the redneck Walmart shoppers will get as bold as the one I dealt with.

Dabo's rant really stirred the pot. I don't think everyone realizes how it brought out in the open hatred from #### fans who were a little cordial prior to it.
