No one is to blame for anyone dying in western nc, no one saw this tragedy coming but since it happened Christians are going there to bring aid, there’s numerous amounts of churches that have responded by sending supplies and groups of workers, there will be many more going, Samaritan’s Purse is always first on the ground when catastrophic storms hit, no need to attack each other, people need real help and our country needs to come together, we don’t have to like the same things but we do need to respect each other and be kind to each other, have a blessed evening and Go Tigers!

I don’t see how there isn’t more than currently being reported. And it may be they honestly just don’t know, not sure what the purpose in a cover up would be. Have to think there would be hundreds throughout that area living in pitched tents somewhere near water.

that a police official reported that they have nearly 1,000 missing persons' reports, and as the waters are receding, they are finding bodies in collapsed houses, cars, the mud, even trees.
Perhaps, logic would render deaths higher than already reported; thus, I expect the numbers to increase significantly, as time progresses. I don't like to dwell on the morbid, but reality makes me circumspect to the point of believing the numbers will eventually be staggering to a degree.
My brother's exact words were, "This is something you have to see for yourself, as the videos and photos don't really convey the reality." And we're talking about most of the western N.C. area, eastern Tennessee, northern S.C. plus other surrounding areas. Reports from relatives in western Virginia and southern WV are dire in of themselves. Then, there are Georgia and Florida that received major hits.
And for me, the worst occurring now are those attempting to make this political, mostly via social media based on their opinions and misguided and exaggerated relaying of rumors. Self-appointed purveyors of the worst, as far as I'm concerned.

Anyone who thinks anyone is covering anything up must have some ulterior motive to believe that. The responsibility and #1 goal of those on the ground is to save lives. Even after the swift water rescues are all over that means providing medical, food, water,...let them use their time for something more important than talking to reporters. Once everyone is safe and all of the families are notified they'll begin to disseminate info on how bad it really is. Noone on the ground in WNC owes us safe and protected people outside the area jack sheet, we'll find out all of the terrible details when more important tasks are complete.

I’m not really a political person. But I was reading that FEMA does not have the necessary funds to help support recovery. Said the reason was because the majority of the funds were dished out to help sanctuary immigrants. If that’s the case that is terrible and falls on the current administration.

I work for a very large company with an enormous supply chain network; we’ve been shuttling supplies multiple times a day to supply chain nodes in Asheville and WNC. The problem is that the only route open is south on 77 and 85 thru Shelby and back up; I40 is completely impassable. The Swannanoa valley is east of Asheville on 40 so I don’t know if a tractor trailer could even make it there. There are reports of people delivering supplies in that area using donkeys and packing things in in ruck sacks.
I hope someone who is in charge of recovery sees his message and provides aide.

I read through a bunch more comments this morning and all I can say is that some of you folks have lost your everlovin’ minds.
There’s no great conspiracy to cover up deaths. As some here have pointed out, there is a painstaking process that first responders and officials follow as bodies are found and identified. Since the event, the death toll has risen steadily and has been reported on by the media. Maybe that’s not sensational enough for some…who knows. Frankly, I don’t want to read about people drowned in their houses and hanging in trees…but that’s just me I guess.
For those who are not convinced, I did one search and this was one of the top hits…from a ‘so-called’ liberal source no less. What about this reporting screams conspiracy?

I don't think it's a conspiracy to keep it quiet, per se, but we all know the media has the ability to sensationalize anything they wish when it advances their agenda. You can bet that if they wanted to have headlines everywhere of thousands dead, bodies in trees, and who's to blame, etc they'd be out there everywhere. Yet for whatever reason you wish to use they are showing restraint here and not engaging in speculation about how many thousands may be dead and who is at fault. It's actually refreshing that they are covering it fairly straight up with a just the facts mentality, but based on the media's history, even doing that could be interpreted as them having an agenda if one were so inclined.

Number is higher than the news says, but there are many unaccounted for.
FEMA and some dingleweeds who are in positions of power (i.e. Lake Lure Fire Chief) are definitely complicating things with their bureaucratic ways and the desire for self-promotion.
The response by churches and religious organizations, as well as your common American, is significant and is making a difference.
Neighbors helping neighbors is exponentially more effective than anything the government is doing.

Unfortunately, I don't think your source is wrong. I have a friend who is helping victims in NC and he told me the same exact thing. Said he heard this from multiple sources with knowledge on the matter. I hate it, and it's disgraceful for the media to be completely silent on the matter if true.
