in a 4 team penn state may have squeezed in but nd would not have been in..and both showed they deserved to be in

It would have been wild. The discussions endless. Obviously no acc teams. Az State would have been squeezed out. Me thinks it'd been obvious:
1. Oregon
2. Uga
3. Texas but debatable
4. Penn St since they played in the B1G championship but lost to osu
5. ND - ugly loss and only one decent win over atm in game 1. Then their last game, an ugly shootout with a bad usc team... I think that would have kept them out.
So then osu would have been ranked 6th. Actually, it would have made for some very interesting foder and gnashing of teeth. But in the end, you would have been right.

Based on this year, 8 is the way to go. 9-12 didn’t deserve to be in.
On another note I’m not sure Texas has enough offense to beat cryin oday.

I think those in favor of the 12 team playoff will change their minds when the SEC and BIG conferences are dominating in numbers. This, of course, is what it was designed for. Manufactured by ESPN and the laughable NCAA.

There are 130 FBS teams and only 12 make the playoffs. That’s not handing out participation trophies. There should be more teams and if you win your conference you should definitely be in. Clemson absolutely deserved to be there.

I disagree, there was less parity in the top 15 before NIL and portal shook up the landscape. But I think this year has shown anybody in top 10 probably has a chance if healthy.

If you'd eliminated all teams that had more than 1 loss for an normal 4 team bracket, then ND makes the playoffs.
You can't really determine the best team without a series like baseball and basketball have but it can't happen in football.
So letting any additional number of teams into the playoffs makes the results more random where the best team is knocked out because of one bad performance or a ball bounce or the other team overperforming for one game.
I'd guess that people thought Oregon was the best team overall. I did but they got killed by OSU.

In my opinion, it should shrink down to 10, with play-in games and then the first round at home stadiums. Everyone during the season cares about top 10 matchups not 12 or 16. It also guarantees that the 1 and two seeds would get the easiest path.

This ain't bad actually. Two play-in games instead of 4 and major conference champs included.
I could live with it though I'd prefer 16 to eliminate the bye.

Not a bad idea but there's no way it will regress in size now that the numbers are out and the money is flowing in. Expect an expansion to 16 at the first available opportunity with top 8 seeds hosting the first round to eliminate the supposed negative 'bye' effect. Plus that's four more ratings and money bonanzas. Top 4 conference champs would likely secure seeds within 1-8 instead of 1-4.
