We will remain the laughing stock for our football schedule until we get out of the ACC. Yes, I realize it’s our easiest path to the playoffs. But I just get tired of people using our schedule against our reputation. I feel in all other sports the ACC is as good as any. Am I the only one so disappointed? I thought we really needed the revenue to stay competitive!

Going forward I believe it’ll actually be easier to get in being in the P2. You can lose up to three games there and still make the playoff.
In the ACC you better be pretty close to perfect

All you have to do is win said easy conference. This maybe getting in is over. If you don’t win the conference you don’t deserve to be in the playoff any way in my opinion.

Nothing is final yet so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. In the end it’s all going to get blown up anyway. The ACC is fine for now as long as we are getting comparable payouts to the BIG and $EC. I’m sure no one was laughing at our schedule in 16 and 18. Winning solves a lot of the issues no matter the conference you are in.

Have you been living under a rock? Payouts are the entire issue! The money isn’t close, the Big 10 and SEC are getting around 2x the amount we are with their new TV deals, and the idiots in the ACC office locked us into a deal that we can’t renegotiate for another 12 years. If we do nothing the difference in our TV revenue vs Vandy, Rutgers, and even the coots will be a total of around $300 million behind over that time period

That clown Phillips accepted more than half less CFP payout money too than the B1G and SEC will get. He let the B1G and SEC walk all over him in the CFP negotiations.

ACC payoff were first and everyone was happy was happy! Some needs can't even get the chronology straight...who done it?...we all agreed twice...when was it done? Look at your calendar! Why was it done in the first place? You really only had five conferences and someone had to be first...at least we know where the greed comes from...If you don't like something don't agree, praise, spend the money for ten years then *itch and claim you are worth more money than everyone else! That's just bad form!

No I haven’t, have you? Did you read the proposal? No one knows yet how much more the ACC is proposing to distribute.

There’s no way the new version of the PAC 12 will get an automatic playoff spot when it expands to 16. I would say the BIG and SEC will allow one spot for Notre Dame with a qualifier they have no more than 2 losses. The other spot will alternate between the ACC, Big 12 and Group of 5 or whoever is the highest ranked team from those three groups. The SEC and BIG will take the other 14 spots. And they’ll do that for about three years and then decide nobody outside of those two conferences can even be considered for the playoffs. By then college football will have cratered into a niche sport and game attendance will have dropped by 8-10 million nationwide. All games will be on streaming services with ridiculous prices - exactly where ESPN has been trying to go for the last few years. But hey - progress! Am I right?

That would alienate much of the country. But I could see 12 spots going to the Big two, with the remaining 4 going to three conference champs and either ND or the highest ranked non-champ.
Not saying that is right, though.
Last year, the #6 team in the B1G was Northwestern, at 8-5 (5-4) and ranked #31 after bowls The #6 team in the SEC was Tennessee, at 9-4 (4-4) and ranked #20
2 ACC schools and Notre Dame finished higher than Tennessee, and 3 ACC+ND higher than Northwestern
If this year’s conference were applied to 2023, the 6th place SEC team would have been LSU at #11 (10-3, 6-2), and the 6th place B1G team was Penn State at #13 (10-3, 7-2).

I realize that this is a flawed approach considering
Sep 19, 2024, 8:28 AM
|
|
1) Poll bias 2) Includes bowl games, played AFTER the playoff selections would have been made 3) The schools who moved played against weaker conference schedules
But only FSU in the ACC finished higher than the #6 in either of the Big 2, and ND was behind them
I would guess that the teams added will account for an additional loss for all but 1 or 2 B1G teams this season, and at least one more loss for probably 2/3 of the SEC.
The B1G top 6 included two “new” teams, and the SEC top 6 included 1

I imagine selected bowl games will actually be playoff games since there will be 11 playoff games bottom 8 teams, 4 winners of bottom 8 vs 4 p4 champs, 2 x semi finals, championship game.

Not only that, but historically

the ACC has often been better than it is now. The narrative about how sucky it is has always been overblown until the last few years. Combined with the often (not always but often) overblown assessment of the SEC, the narrative has been skewed. The demise of the ACC is highlighting the largely inaccurate historical narrative, because it is becoming true here near the end of the conference as we know it.

Listen class. If we want to have a chance to win the conference, make the Playoffs and have a chance to win another National Championship, we need to be in the ACC pure and simple.

We are way behind other conferences. Whether due to the image that media portrays us and/or lack of effort from a lot of ACC programs, the ACC gets a bad rap in football.
That extra money can push other donations to NIL.

I hate being in the ACC too but it's not about SOS.

We've made the POs 6 times and deserved it every single time. Now once has our SOS had any bearing on our being excluded from the POs. We were not a good football team for 3 years. Our SOS had nothing to do with that.
What upsets me about the ACC is upper management, which would sell their mothers into prostitution for 5 bucks, signed a horrible contract binding us to ESPN for almost two decades. What upsets me is that the ACC is ripe with schools which take money Clemson earns and hands it to blood sucking leeches.
Clemson is not being rewarded for Clemson's investments and labor. Trophies make us proud to be Clemson grads but they can not be converted into dollars and replace that which we've spent on facilities, the best coaches, trainers, assistants and equipment. Think of engineers earning what those who make fries at a fast food place.
That's what bothers me. If the ACC can adjust payouts anywhere close to what the SEC and B1G are getting we should remain in the ACC. I don't like to see folks have to burn money to fly to the other end of the country to support Clemson football but the B1G and SEC already offer that fried carp.
IMO, SOS is one of the trivial complaint about being in the ACC and I'm with you on an early and sure exit from this bundle of rotten wood. ASAP can't be soon enough for me.
