Dont get your shorts in a wad if you would read and comprehend my coments you would notice (Bring iptay back to its beginings and give what ever you can and make clemson better the way it started) I as well use all 7 weekends as vacation and as a family reunion, being stationed overseas and as much as a 14 hour trip everytime i could get to a clemson game i used vacation. There is more that you can do than give money yourself show others the reason that you love clemson so much and get them to donate as well, that was the way IPTAY was started and people gave what they could to help make athletics better and Clemson as a whole got better One team One fight

deficit that we see between us and SEC schools. We're in a small state, plus we spilt fans with another Big Six school. If Clemson wants more money, they need to look elsewhere other than the fans. If Clemson passes on a chance for more money in another conference, it will hurt their standing with donors IMO. I think people will start to think that our Ath Dept isnt as committed to bringing in money as we are to giving it.

college athletics. 15yrs ago, there werent 4 FB games/day on 10 different channels and you couldnt find college baseball on TV unless it was the CWS. Now, college athletics is an ever-expanding industry where TV contracts and bowl payouts are through the roof. The SEC alone is making atleast 6 times as much now as it was just 15yrs ago. The deficits between schools' budget are beginning to become too much for fanbases to make up for. 20yrs ago, a fanbase could out-donate another. Now, that doenst cut it.

I agree we have great fans who will do what it takes, but it's almost impossible to compete with big-time TV contracts based purely on donations.

for the playoff.
Take two more schools, any two, and we'll have a 16 team conference. If we take teams weak in football that would leave Clemson, FSU and the other 'love football,' schools in the driver's seat for the playoffs.
Each of the four power conference must demand placement of the winner of their conference championship game in order for this to work. Suck it SEC, no two teams for you.
Now, were are we going to get the money to keep up with football's growth over the next 20 years?

locotiger if we scoot to the big 12 how many away games are you going to be able to go to I hate to say it but i wouldnt go to any i already use what i have to go to games that are close enough to drive to on the weekend. Plus a trip to anyother big 12 school is going to take more than an weekend and there goes any extra vacation time. How many other loyal tigers would that take out of the equation and then what we are know for is wasted.

That sounds like something Swofford would say...in fact, it might just be. "Don't expect the ACC to be on par with the SEC or Big XII in TV contracts. Just ask more from your fans."
Are you Swofford?

The answer may be blowing in the wind and the big12 may be able to give use 5 million a year more but with the travel cost to the fans you are going to pay it one way or another either you help you school out by giving more money to help out or you are going to give it in travel money to games, cost of cable TV or you man up help just your school and support them directly insted of indirectly through TV contracts. It is the same BS that the federal government does on a daily bases with your taxes either help your self or pay to help others.

Ive got cable TV already, that so that wouldnt be an added cost. Besides, I'll trade not going to some away games for playing in the Big 12. We'd still have games at FSU and WVU (which is closer than Syr, Pitt, BC, and maybe Mary.) Plus, in the Big12, we'd only have 8 conference games which would allow us to play that extra home game. Right now, there are gonna be years in the ACC where we only get 6 home games instead of our minimum 7. How much do you think that will cost us in home revenue for that one games?

with Oklahoma, Texas, OK State, Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU, etc coming to town than with Duke, Wake, Syracuse, Pitt, Maryland, BC coming to town. I can only imagine low attendance for Iowa State and maybe K-State/Kansas, and I'd see them still beating the attendance of a Clemson-Duke matchup.
I don't think we're going to the Big12, but I don't see home attendance dropping off at all with a switch.

Baylor has a following though, BC never has and never will. BC cant compete with the Pats, Celtics, and Red Sox. Even though BC was good in FB when they joined the ACC, they never generated any money for us. They were a school that lost money and took another slice of the money pie from us.

Last year's average attendance
BC (4-8) 35,706
Baylor (10-3) w/ a Heisman Trophy winning QB 41,368
And Baylor is a team that won like 20 games over a ten year period. For comparison's sake in '07 BC was 11-3 and had an average attendance of 41,990.
I don't see a difference.

and still brought in over 41,000 last yr. BC finsihed ranked in 04, were top-20 in 05 and 06, then top-10 in 07. They won the Atlantic Div in 07 and 08, and won 8 straight bowl games (longest current natl streak at the time). With all that, BC at their peak in the ACC brought in 42,000 fans. Are you telling me you dont believe Baylor has the potential to surpass them. I could easily see Baylor bringing in 10,000 more fans over the next couple of years.

In the game where RGIII got hurt, true freshman who looked really good. They might not be as big of a draw, but I see them as a team with the potential to at least be on the level of a UNC or NC State in terms of draw year-in and year-out.

But thats not uncommon. If something were to happen to one of our facilities, say a natural disaster, that money would come in good handy. Im not opposed to us sitting on a reserve like that.

I'd understand the AD sitting on that kind of money, but not the booster club. I think people generally donate to IPTAY thinking that their money goes to scholarships and facilities improvements, not into some emergency fund.
To me there is a big difference there, I'm not sure if others see it the same way or not.

Salary and expense caps for coaches. The salary cap works well for NFL. Institutions with great football traditions will continue to thrive and net football profits will zoom.

Is the NFL capitalist? You have numerous limits in Nascar to prevent teams from overspending on engines, materials, and tires.
Put limits in and the greater profits will flow to the colleges instead of the coaches. Maybe even lower ticket prices.
I enjoyed Clemson the best when we were paying Danny less than $100K/year.
