All this VaTech talk, will they still be relevant once Beamer

May 20, 2012, 5:39 PM

retires? Will lightening strike VaTech twice with another successful no-name hire who keeps them winning? Or am I wrong...and VaTech actually can attract a big name coach AND is willing to pay the bucks to keep them? Whats your prognostication on VaTech post-Beamer?

I actually think UVA is more attractive to major

May 20, 2012, 5:40 PM

conferences than VPI...

but that's just my opinion.

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

Why is that? My opinion is that football is king, and VT

May 20, 2012, 5:43 PM

would cause more TV sets to tune in than would UVA. They also have a larger fanbase and are perennial players on the national scene. What does UVA bring to the table?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you think VT has a larger fanbase?***

Yes, I do. More nationally known by a wide margin.

And they make considerably more football revenue.

Must be larger fanbase.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ok... entitled to what you think...

May 20, 2012, 5:56 PM

I don't think they compare to UVA though

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

I posted some numbers. What are you referring to when

May 20, 2012, 5:58 PM

you say you don't think they compare?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't understand what you are arguing with me about....

May 20, 2012, 6:00 PM

I don't think VPI has the resources to be as valuable as UVA is.

You disagree...

ok

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

york, please don't start with the victim role. You said UVA

May 20, 2012, 6:04 PM

is more attractive in football expansion than is VT.

I disagree, and I also pointed out VT has a bigger fanbase, they're more nationally known, and they bring in considerably more football revenue. Not sure what there is to argue about?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: york, please don't start with the victim role. You said UVA

May 20, 2012, 6:09 PM

Virginia has enough money to be as good as they want to be in football.

The same way that a Stanford team was able to build a brand new stadium after a winless year. They are just on a different level. Not to mention a much larger and more successful alumni base and a location near D.C.

This is what I've been saying from the beginning, its not all about recent success and TV money.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re:Man, UVA fans do give a rip about sports. Then why

May 20, 2012, 6:10 PM [ in reply to I don't understand what you are arguing with me about.... ]

should they?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And...

May 20, 2012, 6:01 PM [ in reply to ok... entitled to what you think... ]

VT has had better attendance every year, at least since 1998.

Again, I'm not sure what you're basing your opinion on. The facts show VT has a bigger fanbase and considerably more revenue.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think VPI has the fanbase or money to compete with

May 20, 2012, 5:47 PM [ in reply to Why is that? My opinion is that football is king, and VT ]

UVA...

not even close

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

Hey York. Check your tmail.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know about the money, but VT has a much more

May 20, 2012, 5:50 PM [ in reply to I don't think VPI has the fanbase or money to compete with ]

consistently attending fanbase. That, and they are a MUCH more respected football program. Again, it's about the TV sets. Not sure about what the school's monetary prowess has to do with it?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re:VT will be playing football when UVA is gone. As for as

May 20, 2012, 5:56 PM

money, UVA,Duke and Carolina are flat out loaded and have the graduate
schools that can produce alumni who have deep pockets. There is no bottom to those barrels.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I don't think VPI has the fanbase or money to compete with

May 20, 2012, 5:50 PM

Really? wow never knew that figured vt was the powerhouse in that state in everyway.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: All this VaTech talk, will they still be relevant once Beamer

May 20, 2012, 6:23 PM

Any conference that accepts VT is taking a big risk. After Beamer retires there is a good chance they sink back into being a 6-6 type team that doesn't fill its stadium. Look at how much better Clemson recruits.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

When Virginia Tech is in the SEC

May 20, 2012, 7:24 PM

and starts bringing in $35-38 million a year and then another $10+ million in third tier...they'll be relevant!

Even if Tommy Bowden is coaching them!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They are only relevant in myth.....actual results lack

May 20, 2012, 7:40 PM

See BCS or any other OOC national stage games for reference.
