To those defending Dabo's "method", would you want your 5 star son being coached

by Will Swinney? Do you really believe that's your son's best path to becoming an NFL-draft day player?
Come on, be honest. No parent or agent would take this level of "coaching" seriously.
THAT, my friends, is part and parcel of the problem. This type of nepo-hire is killing our ability to bring in top level talent and it's showing on the field. That's a fact.

As a mom, I would rather have my child being coached by the Swinney family than a program where players are (or should be) arrested on a regular basis.

We aren't Jawja or USCjr. That was never a problem previously. And yes, several players under Dabo's watch have been arrested....just saying.

Well you don't have a five star kid and neither do I. But if I did I would love for Dabo and will Sweeny to be His coach all day long. I base this not only on the type men I know them to be and would want my son to be around but also on track record! Championships won and players put in the NFL... Yeah I think coach Sweeny Knows what he is doing!

I do think that my primary thought would be choosing a program capable of partnering with me in making sure my 5-star son on the field grows into a 5-star man off it.

Fair enough. But try to think like a kid who grew up in a very disadvantaged environment.....you might have a different take. It's not only about environment---it's also about the money. That's where college football is right now--its a business. Saban didn't want any part of it and rightly so.

What in the world is racist about what he said??? You’re as soft as this team/coaching staff is..not a surprise you defend them so much

How is it racist to say that someone who grew up poor may want to make money playing sports? Isn't that what America is all about---living the "American Dream" ?
Come on, do better!!

Besides, it's an insult to the kids to assume they're all about the dough. Many are not and won't ever be. And college football has been a business since Fordham played on TV for the first time in 1939.

I think the deal is the 99% of these boys coming out of highschool dream of being in the pro's. 100% of the five stars are confident they will be in the pro's (even if that might not be true) and their parents want that too regardless of your stated goal of making a 5-star man. So in the end if I had a 5 star son I would be looking for the best place to coach him up so his dream of being in the pro's comes true with the addition of not being a negative influence as a person that I as his parent could not counteract. In the end what kind of man he becomes is not on some football coach...that is lame parenting at its worst.

I'd be ok if they decided to go with dabo..
I would "hint" that Andrew Aurich or Timmy Chang would be good choices.

If it was my son's lifelong dream to play in the NFL, I'd advise him to look elsewhere. But that's just me.

Something like 95% of 5star recruits ended up in the nfl so it didn't matter what team they were on.
Like 90% of 4stars.
Huge drop off with 3 stars.
The question you should probably ask is if your kid is a 3 star with nfl dreams.

OK. Look at Peter Woods' draft stock and tell me he isn't losing $$.

You can split hairs all you want. The fact remains, his draft stock has fallen. He may be a 3rd round pick if he's lucky.....but he was a consensus pre-season 1st round pick. So my point is valid. Overruled on appeal.

THE ISSUE IS:
Throwing out the hypothetical.....most 5 stars aren't choosing us.
Nothing hurts culture more than losing unnecessarily. We aren't losing b/c of what some other coach and program is doing to us. Entirely self-inflicted. It can get fixed....but statistics (facts) tell you that its very difficult in this line of work to get it turned around. Didn't have to be this way. Here's hoping we can get it fixed. Very concerned about next year....
Keep doing the same thing when it doesn't work in reality, will ALWAYS leave you disappointed.

Not defending the hiring of Will, but Dabo's been the coach for almost two decades and you still can't spell his last name?
