Both coaches were being a little shady with the rules. The refs should have stepped in. The Whale just had a sense of humor and Beamer went off the rails.

Beamer was getting out coached and couldn’t stand it. So when Bielema taunted him he couldn’t look like a chump in front of his fans so he decided to look like a whiney b*#<$

Listen to his interview post game. He claims it was from one of the trick kickoff return plays. The chicken player gave that sign and then threw the ball to another chicken that ran it out of the endzone for 25 yards.
I guess that supposedly made Bielema mad and he then taunted Coach Chicken & it ruffled his feathers so bad he had to crow all of the field like a banti rooster!

his arms as if to say the kick is dead, then catching the ball and throwing the ball across the end zone. Beamer broke an unwritten rule (gentleman's agreement).

It had nothing to do with the substitution. That was a whole different gamesmanship by the Illinois coach. The taunt he did was about a fact fair catch signal by the coots on a kick off the Coots received and turned into a trick play for Usuck I thought the response from Beamer was over the top. Wish we had the Illinois coached defense this year. With CD2 really finding himself we could have gone far. Go Tigers. Excited for 2025

Did you not hear either Bielema's or Beamer's presser? The signal had nothing to do with substitutions but it was because the coots did the throwback on the kickoff after the kick returner put out his hands that 99% of the time signals it was not a runback. Bielema said it was a violation of ethics and Beamer said they checked with the officials and it was legal. The whistle never blew but thank goodness the Illini kids didn't stop and made the tackle after the throwback.
