😂 that’s just the football fans defending Dabo…. At this point I think most know he should use the portal but at the same time we also respect him for trying to not use it and honor his commitment to the players that chose Clemson…. Fans know. They just have to defend Dabo….. basketball and baseball transfers have been major components of our recent success

Especially when you know you will have injuries, transfers out, and guys who don’t pan out who need to be replaced on the depth chart.

It is called “commitment”. You recruit a player until he graduates. You don’t decide that you no longer value your commitment. Some people call it integrity.

I agree 100%. That’s what college football used to be. Just because you don’t like the changes doesn’t mean you don’t use all the tools available. Check each national champion since portal got heavy. Every team has around 5% of their starters from the portal. We’re playing checkers while everyone else is playing chess. Our L total has grown each year we stick to Dabo’s guns.
I also have to say Dabo has earned the right to do it his way

Outside of Sanders at Colorado, which coach is taking scholarships? Did Dabo take the scholarships of the Clemson players who transferred? Or did they, and maybe also Dabo, conclude their playing time would likely increase playing somewhere else?

But I do enjoy pointing out the ridiculous stance Dabo has regarding the transfer portal.
His lack of portal usage is hurting our program, and it’s problematic that some of our fans are too scared to acknowledge it out of fear of “questioning Dabo.”

Most fans understand that to use the portal like Dabo has at times that you have to have spots. We had a spot or 2 the past couple years for linemen. Dabo went after them and we didn't get them. Dabo was right most of the guys in the portal aren't good enough to play at Clemson. There are thousands of guys in the portal and only the upper echelon are good enough which there the problem lies. The upper echelon are in for 1 reason, money. If they were good enough to start at their original school they would still be there so they left for money. Clemson was never getting a Keon Coleman bc Clemson cannot afford what other schools can pay and if Clemson could not sure you would rot your culture for 1 guy for 1 year. Yes bringing a hired gun in not only tells recruits in high school you lie bc you do bring in guys to take there spot but also shows you don't trust the guys on your roster so yes it kills the culture. And yes that is a major selling point to recruits and has been mentioned by numerous recruits in high school that Dabo isn't going to give up on you after 6 months. And this bogus dumb fake question that fans would rather lose with Dabo then win buying players is an asinine talking bc he hasn't won less than 9 games since 2010. If Keller and his Dabo hating crew knew what they were talking 99% of the time they'd be dangerous, lucky for us they're as dumb as door knobs.

No one hates Dabo. You can’t deny the on field product hasn’t suffered. There is also ways around scholarship spots. It takes creative thinking. Teams are using NiL collectives to bridge the scholarship gaps. They’re breaking the rules by doing it. But, they’re setting up nil deals to pay the players college bills without having to use a scholarship. When a Blake Corum caliber player wants a spot you make room. I promise you.

So you know, I don't agree 100% with the approach either. But, I do understand WHY he's choosing this path. There are very good reasons both short term & Long term for not aggressively going into the portal.

So…is pay for play against the rules or not? If it is not against the rules and is being used successfully by our basketball and baseball programs…then can someone explain Dabo’s stance to me? Do we not have a coherent policy throughout our athletic department?

I don’t think it’s fair to compare baseball and football’s approach to the portal. Bakich is signing guys stepping up from smaller conferences. Gillen is a great example of a promising pitcher getting a chance to perform at a higher level. Bakich is building a roster quietly with players with two or three yrs of eligibility then adding a couple grad transfers for experienced depth. The transfer portal for football is a different deal. Dabo doesn’t have as great a need to build the roster from promising G5 players. His staff first needs to develop and retain the 4 star recruits they already have on campus. Going after elite talent with big NIL $$ is not something either coach is attempting, and probably because of the reality that they aren’t bankrolled sufficiently to use the portal that way anyhow.

Well he does think Brownell is the Phil Jackson of college basketball.
His opinion on anything seems to be negative. Hell he believes in CNN fact checkers so that tells me all I need to know about his opinion. Just don’t respond it works for me.
