This Nico lamaleava kid from Tennessee is...

The definition of what is wrong with NIL. He just up and quit on his team. Hats off to Coach Heupel for calling him out and getting rid of him. He was going to leave anyway but who would want to play with a selfish kid like that?

I am taking a different approach to viewing this situation. I think that this is actually a great sign - not the actions of Nico but the reactions of Dan Lanning / UT & Josh Hupel.

The adults in the room are finally speaking up and taking action to right the course.

That would be pretty cool if he didn't get a better deal elsewhere. If he doesn't, hopefully it's just slightly better at some junk school.

Well, he can't transfer to an SEC school, right? Isn't there a loosely enforced rule about that?

Oregon told him to kick rocks. Only a few more schools left that can actually tote that type of NIL support so his options for "better deal" are super limited.

Enter FSU with a black hat. That would be terrible for the guy that came in from BC though.

The Tennessee coach is right when he said not one player is above the team. Hopefully this becomes a trend. Players are becoming more and more greedy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But the same coach also made this above the team

And NCAA by not only negating money straight to the player from the staff but also suing the NCAA over him to cause more serious issues in college sports. Literally made this dude above everyone.

I disagree

all the players need to get their money now. He has a knee injury and his career is over. His chances of making an NFL team are slim. If he never plays again he at least has some money.

Tennessee could have paid him more. But, now he has to find a team that will take him and Tennessee has to find a QB. Both the athletic departments deserve this. The players and athletic departments get what they deserve and they are going to get it good and hard.

Players have had 7 and 8 figure insurance policies for more than a decade so that risk has been mitigated and he knew this before he ever signed his original NIL deal.

I agree that they should get what they can, but not at all costs. He was getting paid well, had teammates, and he also probably would have got a raise next year. He must know something. He was probably offered way more. Also, if he believes in himself he will crush it in the NFL too.

I disagree, this kid doesn’t have the sense to manage the money. Hw won’t get what he wants and will blow what he does get if anyone signs a greedy kid . Let the buyer beware.

thats if he gets any money to blow, sounds like papa is very hands on

Bunch of entitled brats that should be paying schools for promoting them and getting them ready for the pros. Without college you aren't going anywhere to play.

It will be interesting to see if any of the power 5 schools go after him AND what they offer him. Nico may find himself playing for way less than what he was making in Knoxville. Now that would be funny.

As a starter He will be the next Colin Kaepernick and make some kind fuss if he is benched, even if he only starts for one game. I hope I am wrong for his sake.

PURE GREED

NO HONOR WHATSOEVER

THE DEAL HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE WITH HIS AGENT

2025 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is also the definition of what is wrong with the NCAA.

The NCAA set up the rules (during COVID) that players could transfer without penalty. The NCAA set up the rules that academics are irrelevant when a school is considering recruiting a guy out of the portal.

The NCAA set up unrestricted free agency. The courts forced the "no salary cap" condition for schools.

But, the NCAA is not the victim here. They are the primary cause.

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The courts would have overruled any restrictions the NCAA tried to put on
