I didn't think SOS's "Clemson" comments post-game

Jan 2, 2014, 11:29 AM

were an insult to us as much as him trying to distract the Coots from the fact that this is their absolute peak and they still cannot win an actual championship.

"I know we lost to UT and that kept us out of the SEC Champ game, again, despite having beaten the East Division Winners, again, and we still haven't sniffed a BCS bowl, again, but remember we beat Clemson."

Shaw and Clowney gone...UF and UT will not suck

$CU will miss Shaw WAY MORE than Clowney IMO***

and accroding to him, the rumor is that Bruce Ellington is going to declare for the NFL draft probably within the next day or two.

At his height, Ellington doesn't possess the frame scouts are looking for as an outside receiver but his solid build, athleticism, speed and very good hands makes him very intriguing as a slot receiver and return specialist

I give 'em credit....they've had a nice little run with

as Jeffery and Lattimore. Shaw and Ellington are play makers, but both would be considered long shorts to have any long term sustained success at the next level.

I wasn't responding to their NFL potential

Jan 2, 2014, 2:06 PM

I was responding to the predictions of SC peaking because of this player or that player is leaving. Two years ago I read that we were done when Jeffery, Lattimore and Garcia were gone. Last year it was "See how many games you win without Lattimore". Now I read similar predictions because Clowney and Shaw won't be here next year.

Re: I wasn't responding to their NFL potential

Jan 2, 2014, 2:33 PM

South Carolina's recruiting will take a hit now that Dabo has head coaching experience and Clemson has stability in it's coaching staff. Clemson has also had consecutive quality seasons and has more to offer academically, a nicer/safer campus, etc.

South Carolina also didn't win anything in years when both Florida and Tennessee have been down... They missed a golden opportunity IMO.

They have had more success than they have had historically, but I still don't see any championships at South Carolina. Their baseball program won 2, but
take it for what it was considering the NCAA violations that were discovered.

Re: I wasn't responding to their NFL potential

Jan 2, 2014, 3:22 PM

Oddly enough, SC and Clemson don't go head to head in recruiting battles except for about 3-4 guys per year tops. So good recruiting by Clemson does not necessarily equate to a hit to SC's recruiting. Even if that were the case, Dabo's head coaching experience is a small chip to play when you are comparing him to a guy who is literally a college football legend. Clemson's staff stability is < than SC's stability at this point because Chad Morris is tossed around with every 2nd tier head coaching job. SC also has the SEC chip to play and the better TV exposure that comes with it. The SEC network and it's on campus gameday show will only make this a bigger chip to play. SC also a lot more players making noise in the NFL than Clemson does these days. I think the academics and the small town\charming campus card is a bigger sell to "normal" students than it is to elite athletes. I think the guys you are recruiting are looking more for stuff to do (and chick-fil-a's) than they hills and a pretty campus.

Completely agree that we missed a great opportunity these last few years. We completely "pulled a Clemson" with the loss to Tennessee. Everything was on the table for us to play Auburn for a shot at the BCS title and we blew it with a loss to a crappy team.

I don't know what you are talking about with the NCAA violations after the championship comment. The SC baseball program hasn't had any NCAA violations reported. Clemson is the school that had the violations after they won a national championship.

You don't know what I'm talking about with NCAA violations?

Someone needs to stay out of five points.

Colorado just legalized weed? road trip perhaps...

And considering Clemson didn't lose to any teams outside of the top 10, it shouldn't be called pulling a Clemson IMO. Pulling a South Carolina?

And what happens if FSU wins the national championship? South Carolina is still going to sell themselves as being in the elite college football conference if the ACC has the title?

Go Noles!

Unconquered.

Re: We need to worry about Clemson

Jan 2, 2014, 4:43 PM [ in reply to Shaw and Clowney gone...UF and UT will not suck ]

All this talk about the coots getting back to their old habits is self defeating. We might as well be saying,"Once they are bad again we can finally win." That is fatalistic thinking. They have 5 seniors, the entire offence returns less Shaw (don't forget Thompson last year didn't have a bad game at DV). Those of you who can't wait for USuC to get worse for us to win better start hoping instead that we play to our potential. We lose our record setting QB and an All American receiver, not to mention others. Do you all think we will be terrible as a result. I don't, Dabo has us where we simply reload. Unfortunately so does Spurious.

We are recruiting better than they are most every year but not by much. It is time to realize they may continue to have decent teams and our job is to step up. We need to realize that for the foreseeable future they are a problem that we need to solve.

I would think they'd be pre-season favorites in the SEC-E

Jan 2, 2014, 11:56 AM

Next year. They get UGA and Mizzou at home...they have to go to UF...wonder how good they'll be.

They'll be pretty talented at a lot of positions. QB is obviously the biggest question mark.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Depends how many of their Juniors leave early IMO

Jan 2, 2014, 12:02 PM

The loss of both Ellington and Shaw would not bode well for their offense next year.

Shaw and Ellington are excellent players...but

Jan 2, 2014, 12:05 PM

The O-line, RB, and WR positions (despite loss of Ellington) will be strengths. Roland has the potential to be a big weapon, I think.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Depends how many of their Juniors leave early IMO

Jan 2, 2014, 5:29 PM [ in reply to Depends how many of their Juniors leave early IMO ]

Quit saying things like that. We lose Boyd and Sammy, do you think we are going to suck. I don't. They will be good and so will we for the foreseeable future; we need to accept that and realize we may be playing each other as top 10 or 15 teams for a while. We just need to find a way to stop the bleeding and turn this thing around. Hoping they get worse because that is how we can beat them is defeatist thinking. We need to beat them no matter how good they are.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mizzou should be the favorites easy

Jan 2, 2014, 12:08 PM

Aurburn, Mizzouri and a healthy Gurley Marshall is 3 Losses in the SEC already let alone the UT rematch.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I didn't know they played Auburn next year.

Jan 2, 2014, 12:11 PM

Could change things, depending on who the other SEC East teams play from the West. It's probably too far out to say, but I could definitely see SC beating Missouri and UGA at home. Both of them are losing senior QBs as well, I believe.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They actually play Texas A&M and Auburn

Jan 2, 2014, 12:17 PM

The A&M game is in Columbia while the Auburn game in on the raod.

"We establish no religion in this country, we mandate no belief. Nor will we ever. Church and state are, and must remain, separate." ~Ronald Reagan

Yeah, might be right. Key for SC is Thompson.

Jan 2, 2014, 12:21 PM

If he is good, then SC has an excellent football team in 2014, I believe, and probably wins the East. Dylan is one of my personal favorite Gamecocks ever, so I hope for the best for him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep he would have won that game with more aggressive play calling

Jan 2, 2014, 12:22 PM

But how would the coaches know that USC was saving up 17 points for the 4th after not scoring at all. They almost didn't play conservative enough. With a true grind the game out mentality they probably would have won. They won't cover their receivers without Hampton so they are probably screwed in that game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are right about Roland though

Jan 2, 2014, 12:25 PM

If he can stay in school he will be a tough match-up eventually. Luckily Mike Williams has a head start on him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep. You can't spend championships you don't have.***

Heard all of this when both Shaw and Latt. were out for the Clemson game, AT CLEMSON, still didn't matter!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I didn't think SOS's "Clemson" comments post-game

Jan 2, 2014, 2:51 PM

Shaw is without a doubt my all time favorite Gamecock QB and IMO the best we have ever had at the position, he will be missed. But we do have a QB by the name of Dylan Thompson who has proven that he can win big games (2012 @ CU, the winning TD pass against Mich) as well as a couple really good ones in Brandon Nosovitch (Penn. Gatorade parade All American who broke the state record for all purpose yards) and Conner Mitch a four star who came in early and has done nothing but impress the coaching staff since he arrived. I think we will be fine at the QB position.

Losing Clowney and Quarles will definitely hurt but that's college football and it happens to everyone. Replacing stud players is what makes college football great. Hopefully the next guy will step up when called upon.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Correct...It's pathetic funny.***
