I didn't know the dynamics going on in the DJU household....

Some may disagree but I didn't know the issues DJ was dealing with off the field with the divorce of his mom and dad. Family is maybe the most important thing in Polynesian culture then you add the struggles on the field and I can see why DJU struggled. I'm not saying that is why he struggled and that he shouldn't be talented enough to be better than he was even with his struggles but I am saying you can see how that could effect a young man of his ethnicity who's culture of family is the driving force. That doesn't mean family isn't as important to other peoples or that a divorce in the family wouldn't effect any other persons of different backgrounds the same. I'm just saying how important family is to that certain group and could have been a reason as to why DJU's problem seemed to never get any better throughout the year. You'd like to think that outside forces don't have any effect on a young man playing football but that just isn't being realistic. For his sake I hope that his family and he can put these issues behind them and move forward in a positive light and selfishly I hope DJU can become the great QB we all know he can be. The latter is selfish on my behalf but too if DJU can become that star QB it gives him the opportunity to help his family with generational type wealth. Regardless of him becoming a great QB I hope his family finds peace.

better for DJ. He seems to be a talented and well mannered YOUNG man. Cade coming in will push him. Hopefully we will have two QB's leading Clemson to another ACC title and beyond. I honestly wish the man well and pulling hard for him in life.

Not if it is the QB coaching staff that is the problem.

I also think many here(including myself) put ridiculous expectations on 18 and 19 year old kids just based off what we see from the media. And then wonder what’s wrong with them when they don’t perform to the level we expected. I’ll be the first to say if people had to depend on me when I was 18 there would be a lot of disappointed people.

Completely agree! At 18, if it was important, it was avoided.
“Potential” was the adjective used to describe me most often. As in “certainly can, but has not.” Lol
I believe in Cinco.

No one knows what another person is dealing with. This is why we should all extend a little grace and understanding toward each other. After all, we would want the same for ourselves.

TA - spot on. I never saw it confirmed but after the year, or maybe the bowl presser, Dabo aluded that it was true. I knew as soon as the rumors swirling, that if true, it was bad. I'm sure the family was split too. Wouldn't be shocked if some members didn't put pressure on DJ to come home. In his culture it's like almost worse than death. Divorce just doesn't happen.
He's fortunate to have Dabo and I'm sure the family feels the same. He's got mechanical issues that the staff knew about coming in. DJ wasn't finished growing physically. They're working on both. We'll be ok. Thanks for the post.
