I think our starting defensive line may be better this year than last year. Kevin Dodd may be better than both Crawford and Barnes, which is crazy, because both of those guys were great Tigers. Carlos Watkins is playing like a man possessed, and is doing his best Grady Jarrett impersonation, living in the opponents backfield (at a much larger size). Scott Pagano can't be moved. He lets Watkins do his thing. Finally, Shaq Lawson is a better all around player than Vic Beasley (which again, is amazing because Vic is an all time great Tiger).

Now, we don't have nearly the depth at the end positions this year, but just looking at the starters, I give this years team a slight edge.

Whatever we're paying Dan Brooks....it's not enough.

Also, Christian Wilkins has to be the best backup DL in all of college football. He's been a beast.

He was making tackles in the backfield, and running down players 10 yards down the field. The kid is a freak. Great pick up late in the recruiting game.

I think all we're missing is a Vic Beasley...not to replace Lawson, but to provide some sort of pass rush boost on 3rd down. Our guys are big and powerful (and get held), but they seem to lack the nimbleness that Vic had which seemed to neutralize the shiftiness of mobile QBs
