He was an amazing guy! I cannot remember anyone that was better at their job than he. I went to a game out in CA and it was very special to hear him and to see him at the ballpark. Certainly an icon.

THE Voice of the Dodgers, his call is not the one most people, including me, first think of for one of the most iconic calls in Dodger history. His call is great too, though. But, to me, it will always be Don Drysdale's "I Don't Believe, What I Just SAW!"

After all these years, I still think this is the singular most iconic moment in Professional sports history, just because it was SO improbable. How does a man who has TWO bad knees manage to ignore the pain, first, and then, generate enough timing and bat speed to take a ball out on one of the best relievers the game has ever seen? I STILL don't believe what I just saw.

That was actually Jack Buck, the old St. Louis Cardinal announcer, that said "I don't believe what I just saw" when Gibson homered. I was a huge Dodger fan at the time and remember jumping up and down when it happened!!!
