He did look very confident and knowledgeable as to what he wanted to do with the ball... mostly good throws and little wasted motion. I had a feeling that someone who set so many records from a state like Florida, had to be better than we have heard. Go for it Tucker!

I'm glad he is thankful bc he has a 0% chance of winning the job unless the other 3 guys get hurt. The whit line was beyond awful. Cooper and Johnson had no chance. Both of which are easy more talented. Dabo was pumping sunshine when he was talking about Israel, he is just simply not as good as the other 3 guys

Of course it's my opinion, this is a message board. But how exactly has he proven he is better than cooper? Every Clemson site TI, SB nation, and predominantly this site classify this competition as a 3 horse race. The young QB's have more upside and Kelly is the veteran. Nothing wrong with Israel, but I, as well as most Clemson fans/insiders do not thing he will be our starter.

blowing sunshine? I think that Israel will never get the chance to be the starting QB due to height but he has definitely been as/more impressive than any of the QBs in live action.

The only reason that Tucker is not one of the leaders in this race is because he is 5-8. If he had his talent with a more ideal body size, he would be our starter

I'm sure that if Tucker is ahead talent/skill wise come fall, he will start regardless of his size...
There might be a durability issue due to his size, but we do have (3) more behind him.
I heard a lot of complaints on this board when Hunter was playing as a walk-on... what say them now?!?!?
If Dabo decides to start Tucker, I'm ALL IN!
May the best Tiger win! #go_tigers

I think he has as good of a shot as any of the other guys. I didn't see any of them show they were more talented than the other. Maybe Bryant's running is clearly better, but as for the position itself, Israel definitely didn't hurt himself Saturday.

you're right, he has an extremely weak arm...
Apr 13, 2017, 4:10 PM
[ in reply to Re: New Story: Israel states his case in quarterback battle ] |
|
which is the physical tool costing him a chance. Kyle Parker was about his height weighed about 15 more pounds, but had a rifle of an arm. Watch the tape a number of his passes were nearly tipped or were interceptable, and the ball sails on him on passes down field, and he both under throws and over throws intermediate sideline passes. He can see the field but again no arm strength.
He could do well at the FCS or division II level, he lacks the arm strength for the FBS level

I never saw Tucker run the ball. Was that on purpose? The other 3 had rushing plays, but I might have missed TI running the ball. Any idea what's up with that?
That said - I like the way he plays. I'm tempted to put him 3rd and KB 4th.

Kind of damming with faint praise in comparison to other QB candidates. Am I wrong? Is Dabo giving him any playing field or reps with 1st team.

If there isn't a realistic expectation that ANYone can win the job, you risk complacency. Let us encourage the competition until Fall, then crown a starter. The young guys must understand nothing is given. EVERYTHING is earned, at EVERY position, regardless of name or number or rivals.com stars.

If they recruited the kid! If they asked him or suggested he come to Clemson ( even as a preferred walk on ) why oh why would he not have a real chance? Now, I believe he is on scholarship and was recruited. But, do you get where I am going with this? Was it charity in asking him to leave certain FCS starting jobs? I mean, whoever moves the ball should be the QB! If it is Tucker, then so be it, why not?
That said, I thought Cooper ( 81 yds ) had a really good spring game. Remember, some throws are on WR's breaking the wrong way. Drops. Somebody not having their head in a R.P.O and blocking on a run instead of having read the defense and running a route. Same for all, but go back and look @ Cooper! I think he needs to add some girth to his body though. I also like Johnson a bunch. Unless he is DW4 good, I don't like the idea of a Fr. running the offense; especially in critical games. Again, he could be an exception to that, the coaches will have to assess his ability to keep his cool. KB made the right play while he was in; but missed some of the passes. Which is concerning! You can't simulate game action during the summer. You are either poised enough(to calm down) when the defense is after you or you are not! DW4 best asset as well as Brady, Marino and all the best ones was: " calmness under pressure " both immediate(defenders) and virtual( expectations and being behind in a game not panicking). Who in this group can do that the best will start for CU. They are all very talented and could go and start @ a number of FBS and FCS schools opening day. Israel included. But, good luck to all these young men during the summer. Get better. Stay healthy. See you in the fall a better QB who will be able to lead the CU offense!

I wonder if they practice shirts on skins. Maybe they could do some five on five type drills. Shirts against Israel and the four skins.

13 of 19 against the Tiger D is rather good. There are several starters who will play this season who will not do that against Us. This race is just now heating up and TI is in the hunt.

Not 94. Especially for tucker since he likely won't contribute as much in the run game.

distanced themselves in this QB race thus far though. Cooper was around the same in the spring game, while Bryant and Johnson were considerably worse at less than 4 YPA. Bryant does at least bring the running factor.

I hope the fact that everyone is writing him off can motivate him even more. He reminded me a lot of Kyle Parker out there last Saturday. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing though lol
