I think it’s only getting stronger based on ratings.

Ratings yes - that is where the money is.

Attendance - not so much, it has been on a steady decline since it peaked in 2008z

.... it's hard to call it semipro isn't it?

I have a masters degree and was considered a professional throught my 40+ year career before retiring. I never approached a 6 figure salary.

Unfortunately we are not willing to go pro!

Somehow there will be a system that regulates NIL, transfers, employment, opt outs, playoffs, realignment, etc.

Just gonna be tough getting from here to there.

And programs are pumping more money into it than ever.

Have no idea where people are getting the idea that it’s in deep trouble

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If all that matters is ratings and money, then all is great for now.

To the extent where the integrity and legitimacy of true college athletics matter, we are in trouble now, and heading in the wrong direction, and I predict we are losing something that will eventually cause interest and ratings to suffer.

It's been that way for decades in the NFL, and that is certainly not failing.

College football is alive and well in Div 2 and Div 3.

At the so-called "power" level? It is now professional football with no salary caps, rampant tampering, and unlimited free agency. I don't find it to be much fun at all, but obviously a lot of people enjoy watching, buying tickets, and sending in money to organizations like IPTAY and the NILs. I still follow Clemson, but no other college games or teams. I have zero interest in even the playoffs if Clemson is not in it. This year's selection committee demonstrated they are in the pocket of the big money pro leagues ($EC and Big$). So, zero interest for me.

There's nothing to indicate that college football is anywhere close to failing. To the contrary, business is good. Coaches, schools, and now players, are making more money than ever.

You may not like the way the business is currently run, but the business is still going strong and making money. It hasn't been killed and there is nothing to indicate that it will be for the foreseeable future.

The new minor league football system isn’t going anywhere…

What we are moving towards is the separation from colleges.

Will the fans stay for minor league football that’s loosely or not at all affiliated with the colleges and universities?

I personally don’t care to follow minor league football when given the choice between that and college football.

In my eyes we won the last real cfb championship after the 2018 season. When LSU won they were literally handing money to players during the post game on live TV.

It’s been downhill ever since.

There's no reason to separate from colleges. That's where the fanbase is. Football also makes way too much money for the schools to ever let the teams go. The way they run their athletics is changing, but not going away.

academics irrelevant or secondary, then it's already lost. Not changed, but lost. It's only "college sports" in name, strictly for business purposes. I think it's very gradually been headed that way for a loooong time, but we're now at a point where a lot of people don't know any other way, so the powers that be are just saying "fukit, why pretend anymore?".

I think that's very sad and unfortunate.

College football is already dead, they just haven't changed the name to reflect what it truly is and that is the minor leagues
