Whatever it is we can’t afford them. Apparently we can’t even afford to outbid Duke and GT.

No offense but for the Trilliontime yes we can afford them. We have been paying players for years. The money is there. The will to make needed changes is not

We lost Blake Hebert to ND because the offered him 500k. We offered 250k. He’s a 3 star unproven QB. I have no qualms with that. W lost Tae Harris because GT offered him 350k. I think David Hood said that was 100k more than we offered. He’s a 4 star safety. Maybe I’m crazy but offering an unproven safety almost half a million dollars is kind of ridiculous.

I agree, but that's the market nowadays, and that's what you have to pony up to sign those players.
Let's say you need your house painted, but so does everyone else in your neighborhood. You think $15 an hour is fair, but all your neighbors are willing to pay $25 an hour. You can ##### and moan all you want that $25 an hour is too much, but those painters are going to work for the people paying $25. You can think it's ridiculous, but at the end of the year, you're not going to have your house painted.
It is no different here. The price of a top safety is apparently $350k nowadays. I think that's a lot, but we have to pay it if we want those players. The alternative is to go after 2 stars and 3 stars who are worth a lot less money, and hope we can find players that all other coaches and recruiting services were wrong about. I'll tell you that that's incredibly unlikely and that other than Renfrow and to a smaller extent Etienne, all of our stars during our dominant streak were blue chip recruits.
I don't buy into the "unproven" argument. Dabo and his staff receive about $20 million dollars. They better be able to evaluate high school talent to figure out which of these players are good and which are not.

players have always been paid...........Everywhere........even at clemson while Dabo's been here, before it was "legal". Now that it's "legal" Dabo wants to take some sort of holier than thou portal/NIL stance. Makes no sense.

and if they don't get them out of high school they'll get them to transfer at some point. They're on ESPN's payroll too so they'll do the marketing for them and then pump them all up with money year in and year out. And I don't see them wanting to share with anyone else so I"m not sure the other schools want anymore mouths to feed. So I think FSU and Clemson are on their own. College sports is just screwd up now. ITs basically an auction from year to year.

When you pay David Sanders 1 million per year, the other starters on the offensive line want 1 million apiece. Then the second string guys want pretty serious money cause there’s a 50-50 chance David Sanders doesn’t start a lot of games for UT this coming year.
Then the starting D linemen want 1 million apiece. They don’t want to get paid 200,000 a year when they’re going up against a guy in practice every day that’s getting 1 million a year; that wouldn’t make sense.
So you could end up spending 9 million per year for five starting offensive lineman and four starting defensive lineman. Then you gotta have some depth also.
Then you gotta have some difficult conversations when the four-star lineman doesn’t turn out as expected and the three star lineman turns out to be a stud. Gotta adjust their pay.

Truth. Bagmen’s collective’s will never be brought to light. Nothing they can do about and no need to bring it up for the NCAA to see. Go ahead and report the Chipotle deals and the ones that makes any sense but the rest of it just collect your funds, flip who you want and move on.
Not competing with the OSU’s and Oregon’s of the world. It is what it is. All money. Collect the most and buy your needed roster.
All those being surprised with losing recruits needs to understand the landscape. 5 years ago maybe a few of our former recruits would have thought about Duke or GT and that would have had more to do with getting immediate playing time. Times have changed.

I thought NIL payments over a certain amt had to be reported to the ncaa and it was public knowledge.

LOL. We paid players when you weren't supposed to pay players at all. So did all schools. Do you think reporting rules, if they exist at all, would stop anyone?

If NIL was everything then LSU, FSU, and OK would be undefeated, which is not the case. And these coaches may face extinction just as coach "O", Jimbo, and other flame outs have in the past. There is added value with "Dabo, the coach," "Clemson, the place," and graduation rates that smart future recruits and their families should factor in. I suggest a reading or rereading of "Money Ball." This is how smaller markets compete, and win.

if everyone is being paid, why are ex-nfl excluded
why are the number of years of eligibility restricted
expand the pool of available players and the cost will drop, maybe even will play for a scholarship

Are taxes deducted from these payments or does the school just send them a 1099 for the payments? Has to be reported to the IRS surely.
