How much are these guys really getting paid?

I was talking to a guy who is good friends with Misun Kelly. 3 star who hasn't really touched the field. The guy said that Misun was getting paid 30k a month for the three months of the season. For a guy who doesn't play and was a three star that seemed like a crazy amount to me. Do yall think that these estimates online are all underestimated. Also are you surprised with that type of money that Clemson is giving him who apparently "doesn't have that type of money"?

There is a LOT of money in college football. Talent is extremely important.

So I believe the amount of money these backups get at top 20 programs is more than we think.

Seems about right - I was on a flight recently with a family member of a WR on an SEC team.. They convinced him to transfer …comparable money and the kid barely plays…

Ewers is not a Manning, and can't generate clicks and social media buzz simply by posting a picture of his latest turd.
Everybody has Manning Mania for the guy, thus improving his 'NIL' valuation. Livvy Dunne plays a sport nobody watches, but we love her socials.

Multiple reasons

1. Some universities are private. They don't have to disclose any funding that doesn't come from a public source. Think Miami, Stanford, SMU.
2. Private NIL money doesn't come from a public source. No university has the right to interfere in it in any way, including asking how much the shiny new star is getting.
3. Revenue sharing will be subject to disclosure by the public universities. Whether it not that will apply to private universities remains to be seen.

Generally correct but #2 is a bit of an overstatement
School (and coaches) can be involved to an extent. They can provide education on NIL including financial management and tax education (and in some places require it), they can facilitate a NIL marketplace, meeting spaces for NIL, promote the NIL deal and even inform athletes about certain NIL opportunities.
They cannot fund, negotiate or provides services as part of the performance of the NIL contract. Along other things like have a financial stake in the collective

I’m not completely buying that amount. If every scholarship player got that much, we’re talking 2.55 million a month payroll. I’d be willing to bet starters make much more which would push that total closer to $20 million a month. I know we’re 17th nationally in NIL purse but we are near the bottom in expenditures.

If Dabo came out and said “it’s college, where u get an education and create a path in the future to one day make millions either by football, coaching, cashing in your degree “ I’d accept a 7-5 year just to say F-U to the idiots who fail to understand what college is about.
I’ve paid around 45k to Clemson University to have my child attain a degree in elementary education for a profession that is struggling for applicants (currently student teaching one of our coaches son) , something that will actually benefit society. Fortunately, her grades (4.0 last semester) essentially paid for her school this year minus the housing.
I have absolutely no problem with an athlete who makes the grades getting a scholarship and some monetary help. I believe us as adults are foolish to not invest in young people.
However, an alum with a self worth issue or the school in itself paying a 18 year who God gave the ability to throw a football anything other than tuition, housing, and meals is absolutely ridiculous. In the grand scheme of things, it means nothing to society and is an embarrassment of our priorities as a nation

i would mostly agree - but i also oppose paying 10 million to head coach, and 1-2 miliion for each assistant. It is the market price, and so then is the market price for kids. BUt I would be happy to accept 7-5 record annually, rather than have a pro team w/ kids have almost no association at all with the university, no classes, no minimum GPA, nothing!

I think Misun's case maybe a little different because he a local kid. I'd suspect it may be a little easier to get NIL opportunities when you play in the community that you grew up in and everyone in that area has known and followed you for years. I doubt anyone else of similar importance on the team would get as much money.

I don’t really buy it. It’s like when someone tells you the size of the fish they caught.
