Not sure. DJ will have a say in when he starts at Clemson. Gonna be interesting to watch the competition.

TL had to overtake a 2 loss (one while injured) ACC champion who, even with all his flaws, was a considerably better QB than DJ. Unless a miraculous offseason happens, if we arrive in Atlanta with DJ at the helm, we might wind up out of the playoff game one.

Totally understand that message... Why I think he will start earlier. Trevor came in to an offense that could win every game we played thru 4 games easily and With #5 that will not be the case. #5 has made everyone who watches him confident he can keep his own defense on the field for 50 minutes a game while amassing a horrible 0 for whatever on 3rd. If #5 wasnt so flaccid then I would be onboard with the 4th game...
Hopefully #5 doesnt take it like KB did...

All signs show that he will take it the same way…or at least his dad will. It’s historically been a bad sign of things to come when you arrive with your own self promoted nickname.

I think Spring Practice will be the determination on whether the Portal is used sooner rather than later...before next season starts and he loses a year of eligibility.
I'm afraid our "We Too Deep" motto is a thing of the past. I think we are moving into an era of thin stockpiles of talent. No talented kid wants to ride the bench... can't say I blame them.
I also do not see redshirting as options other than for medical purposes.
Herbstreit's "Embarrassment of Riches" will only be good if everyone stays healthy. Even then, Playing Time is king.

It will be obvious in spring training. Cade will be the starter before our first tougher game.

Agreed. But what would you identify as “tougher game”? We had our hands full against a 3 win GT team at home. A game in which DJ threw for only 126 yards, no TD. That is our first game next year in Atlanta.

Good point. I didn’t consider GT, though they certainly were this year. Though not due to them, but to our own offense, or lack thereof.

Oh man, I love that you’ve retained your positive view on it.
You are right that it wasn’t ALL DJ, but man, even adding back in something like all dropped balls over the season he would still have mediocre/garbage stats. I bailed on him after he stunk it up following the bye week. Still watched as I always will, but very reluctantly.

But thanks for one good reply. This topic really brings out the trash in the fanbase.
I expect DJ to return to the form we saw a year ago vs BC and ND. Chemistry with both Collins’ and more check downs to the RBs.

Suggest you rewatch GA game, 7 sacks mostly on him. doesn’t pickup blitz reads and doesn’t get rid of it. Made a lot of nice throws but also missed on some wide open opportunities. Missed a wide open Ross on second possession that looked to go for 7. Interception was into red zone killing scoring drive. Nagata was amazing despite DJ staring him down on every throw, never takes his eye off primary receiver. My opinion but GA loss entirely on DJ. We were better team except at one position. The offense around DJ was solid at the start of the season, injuries certainly impacted later. He never showed improvement although in his defense he was dinged up pretty bad by midseason. He has physical tools but as Herbstreit said game 1 - game seems to fast for him.

7 sacks are not on the QB, that’s on the line.

Maybe by end of Spring Practice? Question is Will Dabo look for a portal backup this year? I am still amazed that we didn’t find a backup last year after TP got hurt in Spring.

It has been very humbling for me watching other teams and wishing we could AT LEAST have a decent QB playing at one of the non-contender schools

He’s the same size DW was as a high school senior.
If he doesn’t start u til year two then he is another miss at the qb position.

He is skinnier than Watson. Watson can take a beating too. Lastly, you don't know how DJ will progress. It's not over for him yet.

The fan base will rip DJ, Street and Dabo to shreds if DJ does not dramatically improve in Spring, Summer and early Fall of 2022. That is a given. Dabo will get huffy if this happens. Clemson fans are not invested in any QB rated outside the top 100 in QB ratings.
