How long before there are no conferences?

Aug 29, 2023, 4:00 PM

Just North, South, East, West divisions of the very best programs in the country. Teams would play there division as well as a couple each year in the other divisions. Clemson would, of course, be in the Southern division. Go Tigers!!!

That is the future and a version of something like that is coming. Only a matter of time. I'd say maybe the next 3-5 years.

Agree which is why you have to be very careful about

leaving a conference and paying or settling with a bunch of teams/conf for high $. You could end up paying on something you maybe wouldn’t have had to at all in a few years.

Exactly. Just like NFC and AFC, only semi-professional football.

A lot of people are saying there will be a football conference and then all the rest of college sports will go back to regional conferences more of what we are used to. This makes the most sense.

I think to answer the question; it will take at least 7-8 more years of what we have now!

I can see it happening for sure though.
You reckon Ohio State likes splitting revenue with Rutgers? Northwestern? Purdue? Maryland? Indiana?

Or Alabama with Vanderbilt? South Carolina?

Doubt it.

If football is all about who has the most money( which I do not subscribe to this b/c Texas, A&M, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame have way more money than Clemson - but Clemson's win % is just as good or better than all the beforementioned.
But, say it is all about the money, no way you want to just carry programs that aren't holding their own weight for long.

Problem: Will the money and the interest be the same when you start cutting teams out? College football loves the upstart program on the rise challenging "the big boys"! If you basically make it impossible for the David vs. Goliath to happen; will it be as interesting?
Will people support it the same a few years from now; knowing it's just pro football with a school's name attached to it?
Maybe it will still hold the appeal to a target audience; but many people who do not like pro sports because of the money who put money into college because it's "not about the money" may pull out.
It will be interesting to see.
I think it will take more time than just a few seasons because; there are many still in denial.
