How is this guy a starter?

Jan 19, 2020, 10:50 AM

12-42 .286 FG%
4-19 .211 3pt%
6-15 .400 FT%
14 assists and 11 turnovers

A guard that shoots 40% FTs is a bench warmer

Well when you become coach you can change it .... so you will never change it.

He is such a good athlete, but yeah he cant shoot. He air balls 5 ft jumpers in the lane. He just comes up short...no rim. Its crazy. That said, he is an amazing athlete and has potential.

Potential? Trapp is halfway through his junior year. I know he is coming off an ACL but I’d say he is what he is at this point.

What that is is a marginal ACC basketball player who can’t shoot very well, drives the lane but turns it over too much and is not a great distributor of the ball. How he is considered a PG boggles my mind.

Dawes is the one with true potential. Much better shooter (especially FT) and is averaging almost one assist more per game as a true freshman.

Agree. Dawes is the guy you want to develop quickly. Tons of potential and a big city player.

Dawes has way more potential, but just is too small or weak at the moment. I think Dawes should be the starter next year and that Trapp should come off the bench. Trapp just started out of necsessity imo. As far as Trapp, he reminds of a really poor man's Westbrook. Great athlete but just cant shoot. On a similar note, maybe Honor and Dawes are the 2 pg's next year? Then where does Trapp go? SG...SF? He cant shoot so who knows. Maybe he should just be a defensive specialist and just play scrappy.

6’2”;180 is not small for a point guard..

I think he is smaller than what he is listed. He needs at strength is that main point though.

Trapp is a sophomore, geez...this guy is coming off a freshman season and a torn ACL, it's a little difficult when its with basketball opposed to football. His shot is not there but he sees the floor better than any other guard...judge him after he's fully healed and JUNIOR year in 2021

Trapp? Good athlete but...

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who should start in that spot?

Jan 19, 2020, 11:13 AM

Chase hunter might get to that point, but he is just coming off of injury. Scott needs to be fresh to handle point when called upon. Ultimately we need some ball handling from the 2-guard spot and right now trapp provides that and some defense.

His last four games have been horrendous offensively. He’ll never be a lights out shooter, but we need more than he is providing. I’m not sure we have anyone that qualifies ahead of him right now.

Agreed more offensive production is needed. However _

repeatedly bringing up disappointing player performance gets old in a hurry. The player is doing the best he can.

If there’s a better alternative then it’s the coach’s job to get another player on the floor. That’s why a coach gets paid.

Tropical, I don't know where this "repeatedly" is coming from since this is the only post I have made regarding any player's performance-- I didn't name the player either but just voicing my opinion that any player on any team with this stat line should not be a starter.

"reads" the court better ... important for the PG or as they say now, "the 1". Now Dawes whilst good, is still a wee lad and needs to develop ... great potential though ... heck, maybe try him at SG or "the 2" with whatshisname who just came off the ACL injury.

Dawes has more TO than assists 50-48... he's played 3-times the minutes of Trapp

It’s funny or sad when two “coots” create accounts to argue with themselves about how bad one of our BB players stats are. Or is it one person arguing with himself to create responses? Paging Sybil.

Maybe you are just one of those posters who always thinks an opinion other than yours must be a coot's.

He’s a very good defender and a smart player overall.

Jan 19, 2020, 2:26 PM

He has a good understanding of several positions. His veteran leadership is helpful.

However, I am almost to the point that I’d rather play Dawes more and take our lumps as he learns. He has a greater upside and skill set than Trapp.

Re: He’s a very good defender and a smart player overall.

I think we will go small and play Honor and Dawes together a good bit. Two guards who are quick, can handle the ball, and can score. This will relieve Trapp of some ball handling duties.

i think his offensive struggles have to be blamed on the injury recovery

he had some decent scoring games last year
