Whatever happened to the "5 years to play 4" rule?

I understand the extra covid year...but by getting a year back that doesn't count, shouldn't the max be seven years to play five. How could anyone actually play in six different seasons, unless one was a redshirt year where he played four or less games?

KJ Henry should not be playing either fwiw. We are getting to a weird landscape in college football where it is legit just semi pro. No rules. No limits on playing. Just make it up as you go
